Tottenham keen on 24-year-old Newcastle target who will cost £26 million

By Saikat -

Tottenham Hotspur are keen on signing the Roma defender Roger Ibanez at the end of the season.

The 24-year-old Brazilian has established himself as a key player for the Giallorossi and the Italian outfit will demand €30 million for him this summer.

Spurs certainly have the financial means to pay the reported €30 million (£26m) asking price and it remains to be seen whether they can get the deal done in the coming weeks.

As per Giallorossi.net, the North London giants will face competition from Premier League rivals Newcastle United, who are looking to bring in defensive reinforcements as well. The Magpies have Fabian Schar, Sven Botman and Dan Burn at their disposal. They will need another reliable central defender in order to do well across multiple competitions next season.

On the other hand, Tottenham need to sign a quality partner for Cristian Romero and Ibanez would be a superb option.

The 24-year-old has proven his quality in Italian football and he has the attributes to succeed in the Premier League as well. The Brazilian will be looking to take the next step in his career and Spurs could provide him with the platform to showcase his qualities at a higher level.

Ibanez is only 24 and he is likely to improve with coaching and experience. There is no doubt that the Brazilian could develop into a top-class defender for Tottenham in the coming seasons.

The reported €30 million asking price could end up looking like a bargain in the long run.

However, Newcastle are better placed to secure Champions League qualification for the next season and they have more financial resources as well. It remains to be seen whether Tottenham can fend off the competition from the Premier League rivals and secure the Brazilian’s signature.
