Tottenham handed transfer boost, 21-year-old target ‘open for a new challenge’

By Saikat -

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with the move for the Bundesliga defender Piero Hincapie.

According to a report from Team Talk, Tottenham have been scouting the 21-year-old Ecuador international and they have now been handed a boost in their pursuit of the defender.

Sky Sports Germany journalist, Florian Plettenberg has revealed on his social media account that the 21-year-old is unhappy with the lack of game time at the German club and he is ‘open for a new challenge’ away from the German club in January.

The development will certainly come as a boost for Tottenham and it remains to be seen whether they try to test the German club’s resolve with an offer.

It is no secret that Tottenham need to improve their defensive options, especially after the injury to Micky van de Ven.

The 21-year-old defender has the potential to develop into a quality Premier League player and Tottenham could help him develop further and fulfil his potential. Regular football in the Premier League could accelerate his development and the transfer would certainly be a major step up in his career. Sitting on the bench at the Bundesliga club would not be ideal for the player at this stage of his career.

Spurs will hope that they can sign him for a reasonable price in the coming weeks. Given the fact that he has been dropped from the starting lineup by Xabi Alonso, it is fair to assume that the Bundesliga club might not demand a premium for him.
