Tottenham handed huge boost as star player returns to training ahead of a busy April schedule

By Mehdi Gokal -

Tottenham Hotspur have been handed a major boost with the news that their club captain and goalkeeper, Hugo Lloris, has returned to training with the squad after a lengthy injury layoff, as reported by the Evening Standard.

Lloris sustained a knee injury during Tottenham’s victory over Manchester City in February, and it was initially feared that he could be out of action for up to eight weeks.

However, the report adds that it is “unclear” whether the Frenchman will play against Everton on Monday evening but the news of his imminent return is undoubtedly a huge boost for Tottenham, who have had a difficult week.

With Antonio Conte having been sacked as manager, and the club’s hopes of qualifying for next season’s Champions League hanging by a thread, Lloris’ return provides a much-needed lift.

In Lloris’ absence, Fraser Forster has performed admirably between the sticks, and has helped to keep Tottenham’s top four hopes alive.

However, the return of their captain and one of their most experienced players is likely to provide an added edge in the coming games.

It remains to be seen whether Lloris will immediately regain his place in the starting lineup, or if Forster will continue to deputise in his absence.

Regardless of who plays, Tottenham will be hoping to secure a vital win against Everton, as they look to close the gap on their rivals in the race for a top four finish.

With Cristian Stellini named as the interim manager until the end of the season following Conte’s departure, Tottenham will be hoping to end the campaign on a high note, and Lloris’ return will undoubtedly give the team a much-needed boost.
