Tottenham Hotspur is planning to offload several players as manager Antonio Conte hopes to mold the squad into his vision. One player whose future in north London is unclear is defender Davinson Sanchez.
When it comes to the central defense, Cristian Romero and Eric Dier occupy two of the three spots, and reports would suggest that Spurs are in the market for another center back.
As a result, Sanchez likely won’t be starting for Tottenham next season, and despite not being guaranteed playing time, the Colombian international isn’t keen on leaving Spurs this summer.
In an interview with Semana, the 25-year-old stated that he hopes to continue with the Premier League club next season, saying he has no “intention” of leaving. “It was a positive season for me personally. Within what I was able to play, I always did it the way it had to be done,” the defender concluded.
If Tottenham plans to compete in several competitions for silverware, they’ll need depth to rotate in and not run their starters into the ground, so perhaps there’s a reason to hold onto a player like Sanchez.
The Colombian is under contract until 2024, and should Spurs listen to offers, Transfermarkt puts his value at £27-million.
Well with Mourinho him and Dier were shocking, Sanchez was falling slipping over all the time, he must have new skis …I mean boots.
I prefer Sanchez to Dier but in any event if we add Bastoni then Sanchez Rodon Davies is a far better backup line than anyone else has in the prem.
Agreed.
Agreed. Any half-decent player that is prepared to fight for his place… and accepts being 2nd choice/benched should be kept. There are far too many that develop a bad attitude in being 2nd choice, gripe about their life and want away. We’ll always need decent backups
You need a big squad so Sanchez, Dier, Davies, Moura, Doherty and Sessegnon are fine for next season because they’ve improved under Conte and seem plugged in to what we’re trying to achieve.
Good lad, I like his attitude – I mean you wouldn’t want him starting every week, but he’s capable of a decent game, as a back up to Cuti he does a job and seems happy enough to fight for his place.
Other areas of the squad are in much more need of attention.
When he has a system that plays to his strengths and disciplined players around him he is decent defender.
His main issue is his distribution.
Sanchez, just like Doherty did very well towards the end of the season, lets hope the pair can keep improving.
