Tottenham boost with Stoke City facing goalkeeping dilemma

By Bruce Grove -

Tottenham has been handed a boost in their bid to beat Stoke City today with Four Four Two reporting that Michael O’Neill is facing a goalkeeping dilemma.

The Potters have two available goalkeepers for the game against the Lilywhites, one is 37-year-old veteran, Andy Lonergan who hasn’t played competitive football in two years and was the fourth choice at Liverpool last year.

The other is 19-year-old Blondy Nna Noukeu who hasn’t had any senior career experience before now.

Tottenham is expected to field the experienced duo of Harry Kane and Son Heung-min in the game as they look to end their trophy drought, and this will be good news to them.

Stoke have already used seven goalkeepers this season, yet they will be without their best three due to some incredible circumstances.

Adam Davies, Angus Gunn and Niki Maenpaa have been injured and will miss the game, while Joe Bursik who was recalled from his loan spell at Doncaster is cup-tied.

Speaking about the problem, O’Neill said: “We’ve had a difficult situation in goal. We’ve got four senior goalkeepers out now if you include Joe Bursik.

“Our choice in goal is either young Blondy Nna Noukeu, a young Belgian goalkeeper, or Andy Lonergan, who we signed as cover for Joe as well. It will be either Andy or Blondy that will play.”

Agreed. Have both on the bench if needed for last 20 mins or penalties.
