Tottenham being urged to sign player that could be the new Luka Modric for Spurs

By Bruce Grove -

Luka Modric was one of the best players Tottenham ever had on their books, and the Croatian’s continued success at Real Madrid shows just how good we had it before he left us.

Since he left, Spurs have struggled to replace him and although Christian Eriksen was also a success, he wasn’t at the level of Modric and we would do well to land a player like him at the moment.

With the transfer window close to being reopened again, Spurs will be handed a fresh chance to sign some top players in their quest to end their wait for a trophy, and Harry Redknapp has pointed to one player that can be their new Luka Modric.

The former Spurs boss reckons that the Lilywhites should target a move for Jack Grealish if they want to bring a player to their side as he is a player that would make them tick.

He told TalkSPORT: “Grealish for sure, that is what they lack.

“We had Luka Modric in there, Pochettino had Eriksen, people like that can make them play – people that can make them tick.

“They need to recruit a couple of players in the summer.”

Grealish is currently battling relegation with Aston Villa and if the Villans don’t survive, he will most likely be sold.

Grealish would be a great signing but he will not come cheap and the chances are that other clubs with deeper pockets and possibly Champions League football will also be interested in signing him.

He single handedly dragged villa up from the championship.. Only De bruyne has created more chances for his teammates this season. And Kev is at a top club. Jack isn’t. I think he has attracted more fouls than anyone else too. He is quality mate, when internationals restart then Jack will be first choice.. I think he’ll be in front of Dele in the pecking order now.

Marvellous player, wish he was on our hit list… Only De Bruyne has created more chances for his team this season, and Grealish is in a weak Villa set up…. Levy won’t go back for him though after the previous attempt. He would cost far too much now… Levy has never openly said he’s wrong about anything. Remember when asked about spending he said spending doesnt guarantee success. And that spurs don’t sign superstars, spurs make superstars. Jack is a superstar now, the hype was real.

Not many are at the moment, but I think that could change once he goes to a big club and is surrounded by quality.

I just like his attitude on the pitch, he wants the ball, he wants to attack. Off the pitch I thought he had matured but no. He trys too hard at Villa but a good coach will get the best out of him. He probably had a lucky escape not coming to us. We wouldn’t have lost money on him, a young English player who isexciting and has plenty of upside.

I think it’s more to do with the quality of the players around him than anything else. He’s exactly the type of creative midfielder we need.

I don’t know about where he will end up. I have a feeling all the talk about him going to ManU is garbage. They have Fernandes, who pretty much plays the same role and excelling in that position (and is a better player really).

I think it will be Man City that will come in for him. If they get rid of Stones, they will surely need some more English/homegrown players to fill the gap. Mysteriously they are now 20mil pounds richer and have Champions League football to offer now as well…what a coincidence.

One thing that always irks me about teams like Chelsea and Man City…How do they always buy players like say Sane, for cheap…they only improve a little, and like Sane this year, sit on the bench in the last year of their contract, and somehow manage to sell them from 20+mil more than they bought him for. Crazy “player laundering” scam.

Still not convinced on the lad if I am honest. I am not 100% sure on him and he plays for his boyhood club, imagine him as jsut a wage hound? He would be less of the commited player he is now. Not to mention, as an attacking player with no allegance do you A) go to united on £300k a week and play attacking football, maybe in the CL…or B) watch the last 3 games we played and decide to be part of the “journey” for at most £100k a week?

His stock is way too high now for lowball Levy to go back in. Would love him at Spurs though.

That boat unfortunately sailed long ago. We’ll miss out on Eze too.
