Tottenham battling with Chelsea for €17m Ligue 1 star that would be long term replacement for star man

By Bruce Grove -

Tottenham is set to battle Chelsea for the signature of young French goalkeeper, Mike Maignan.

The former PSG trainee is one of the highest-rated goalkeepers in France, and he has continued to enhance his reputation at Lille.

He helped the club qualify for this seasons Champions League, and they have qualified for the Europa League after the French Ligue 1 was curtailed early this season.

Jose Mourinho is reportedly interested in the goalie because he considers him to be a long-term replacement for current Spurs number one, Hugo Lloris.

Lloris remains one of the best in the Premier League, but he isn’t getting any younger and he has been plagued by injuries in recent seasons.

The Lilywhites are not the only English team looking to sign Maignan, as Chelsea is reportedly also keen to land him.

Le10Sports claims that although there is interest in his signature from both Premier League sides, there has been no offer tabled for the 25-year-old just yet.

The report adds that the goalkeeper would be available for €17m if any team wants to land him.

Paulo Gazzaniga has been used in the absence of Lloris this season, but he doesn’t seem to have the trust of the manager to fill in as a permanent long-term replacement for the Frenchman.

Who was our last keeper to come up through the ranks? I wanna see my boy Alfie whiteman (Tottenham lad) given a few domestic cup games. Lovely boy.

Note to Levy. Stop buying donkeys from France. Ever heard of ‘One bitten twice shy?’, but here is a man who keeps checking the rabid dog’s mouth, just in case he finds a gold tooth.

Won’t happen this year, just too many other holes need filling, and Levy is not paying a transfer fee and wages for him to sit on the bench.
