“Top Six Premier League Player All Day Long” – Spurs Target Backed By Manager

By Joe Fish -

Queens Park Rangers manager Mark Warburton has labelled reported Tottenham target Eberechi Eze as a “top-six Premier League player”.

The 21-year-old midfielder has apparently caught our eye with his 12 goals and eight assists in 37 Championship appearances this season, with The Sun writing in March that we were favourites to sign him for around £20m.

I know a few Spurs fans are also quite high on this kid, and I think he’d be worth a gamble at a different time for the club, in a different financial climate.

As it is, I think what little funds we have, need to be focussed elsewhere.

It’s an area where there isn’t someone knowledgeable or experienced within the club to judge these young potential players, the last successful punt was Dele, and that judgement was from someone who was not even employed by the club. There are players out there capable of stepping up to become top PL players, it’s the arrogant attitudes of clubs who fail to see their true ability which is the problem.

There is value in Spurs buying young players. If your Academy isn’t producing talent like City, Chelsea, Utd and Liverpool you have to go and buy it, just like Dele. If Eze is cheap enough but not good enough for our first team then the loan system should be used. Jack Clarke from Leeds is a good example. No way was Clarke Premier League ready, but it was worth a punt to buy him.
