“to be sacked… ” – Sky Sports man makes huge claim regarding Antonio Conte’s future

By Mehdi Gokal -

Sky Sports journalist Michael Bridge believes Tottenham will not sack Antonio Conte mid-season unless they go through a “poor run of results”.

Conte took over the job last year and did a spectacular job to help them finish fourth on the last day of the season.

And he guided Spurs to their best start to the Premier League campaign this season as well with many suggesting they could be title contenders.

However, their season has slowly derailed and their results started to become inconsistent.

They are already out of all domestic and European competitions, with their only hope to salvage the season is a top 4 finish.

Newcastle and Liverpool are not too far off them and they will need to be consistent between now and the end of the season to finish in the top 4.

Despite their recent inconsistent performances, Sky Sports’ Michael Bridge believes Conte will not be sacked mid-season and will see off his contract with Spurs unless they go through a run of bad results.

He told GiveMeSport:

“I’d be surprised if there’s any change between now and the summer with Conte.

“I think Spurs would have to go on a poor run of results for him to be sacked and even then, I don’t think they’ve got the worst run to the end of the season.

“They’ve made big mistakes. They made a big mistake in the FA Cup. They’ve obviously got no cup commitments now.

“So I do believe they’ll be in the hunt for a top-four finish from now to the end of the season, which will probably keep him in his job for now.”

The Italian however is not looking to extend his contract with Spurs and is likely to be replaced in the summer.

The North London club are being linked with a number of managers as his replacement including the likes of Thomas Tuchel, Roberto De Zerbi, Luis Enrique and Mauricio Pochettino, with Pochettino the most favourite to take over the job at the moment.

The Argentine turned Tottenham into a top 4 side guiding them to a top 4 finish consistently every year. He also led a title charge in 2016/17 but fell short in the end, finishing 2nd. And in 2018/2019 Spurs enjoyed their best European run, as he guided them to a Champions League final, which they unfortunately lost to Liverpool.

Fans will welcome his appointment if he replaces Conte next season.
