Three managers that Spurs could hire if Conte seals Juventus return – opinion

By Mehdi Gokal -

According to reports, Tottenham manager Antonio Conte could make a sensational return to Juventus at the end of the season.

Antonio Conte is rumoured to be planning a return to Juventus at the end of the season. The Italian’s contract is set to expire at the end of the season, and no extension has been agreed upon.

Conte was hired by Tottenham as a replacement for Nuno Espirito Santo, who was fired after a turbulent start to the season. And then the Italian worked his magic, guiding them to Champions League qualification at the expense Arsenal.

Spurs have started off this season extremely well as well after a full summer backing from the board where Conte signed 8 players to improve his squad. They are yet to be beaten in the league this season picking up 14 points from a possible 18, sitting third on the table just one point from the top.

However, according to Italian journalist Paolo Bargiggia, the 53-year-old will not renew his contract in north London and may make a surprise return to Juventus if Massimiliano Allegri retires. And losing the 53-year-old would be devastating for Daniel Levy and the rest of the Spurs hierarchy. However, there are some big names available as replacements if Conte does leave.

Mauricio Pochettino would be the obvious name on everyone’s mind. After being sacked by PSG, the Argentine is available and reportedly wants a return to the Premier League.

Previously, the Argentine made Spurs a force to be reckoned with, leading them to the Champions League final in 2019.

Tottenham then fired Pochettino just months later, with Jose Mourinho installed as his replacement.

The 50-year-old was signed by PSG and won Ligue 1 with them last season, but it wasn’t enough to keep his job, as Nasser Al-Khelaifi relieved him of his responsibilities.

And now. Pochettino must be considered the frontrunner to succeed Conte, especially given his availability.

Thomas Tuchel is another name that the Spurs’ hierarchy must have in mind. The German was brutally sacked by the new Chelsea owner despite his excellent record at the club.

His track record speaks for itself, and there’s no denying he’s more than capable of achieving success with Spurs. However, it’s unclear whether he’ll join another London club after his time at Chelsea.

Brendan Rodgers is currently at Leicester City but might not be employed for long considering their terrible start to the season.

However, Rodgers has done exceptional job with the Foxes over the last few years and there is no denying that he can make his teams play some wonderful football.

Spurs have been long admirers of him and in fact Rodgers was amongst the names considered as Pochettino’s replacement as well. However, much will depend on whether Rodgers is still in charge of Leicester at the end of the season.

I wonder if Spurs ever filled Poch’s room at the Lodge as his return seems inevitable given the current state of affairs.

The stars do seem to be aligning for the return of Poch…the years since the parting haven’t been kind to either party and everyone can pretend none of that awfulness ever happened.

I’m just clinging on to the idea we have a great season and Conte becomes invested in the club and is offered a good deal to stay so takes it up. Basically that he ends the season feeling he has unfinished business with this squad.

If Conte does go at the end of the season, and in my opinion it is highly likely, then we should get ready for Kane’s departure also.Conte’s exit will show Kane that Levy cannot be trusted with all his smoke and mirrors. If Kane has any real personal ambition,he will follow him out of the door. And then there is Sonny.Oh what tangled webs we weave, when we practice to decieve,

Walker interview says that Poch is a good coach not a manager. Could be why his record against top teams was appalling. Rodgers teams lose the plot at the final moment. How very Spursy. Potter probably wont suit Chelsea but perfect for us.

Elmer Fudd could manage the team as far as I’m concerned as long as Levy’s gone.

Do we seriously need this kind of speculation? Italian journo comments on the future of Italian manager so it must be true. Where is the evidence? Just wishful thinking imo

So can all the utter garbage about Conte being ‘backed’ and being at the club long term now please cease? It’s embarrassing…
