Ange Postecoglou surely has some explaining to do at this stage. Just how many hamstring injuries are normal for a (once) top-tier Premier League side?
Paul O’Keefe tells us that Kevin Danso is merely the latest player to have been afflicted with the muscle injury that has plagued Spurs players this season.
How many games have players been forced to sit out, under Ange? Well, Ben Dinnery wrote a piece highlighting how outstanding the Aussie was in respect of hamstring injuries two months ago.
According to Ben’s data based upon Premier Injuries, hamstring related injuries make up 44% of the injuries suffered by Tottenham players this season.
What is troubling is the context in the division, with the same cause of injury. Across the entire Premier League in 2024-25, 24% of all injuries have been hamstring-related, putting Tottenham well above the league average.
24% opposed to 44% cannot be ignored or played down, and this data is two months old.
The intensity and speed at which Ange has the boys at, appears to be at odds with what players at this level can deliver, without being sidelined.
We play AZ Alkmaar in the second leg of the UEFA Europa League 2024-25 round of 16, tomorrow evening, which will undoubtedly be Postecoglou’s biggest game of his English career so far.
