Noel Whelan reckons Son Heung-min is the most important player at Tottenham now and Nuno Espirito Santo should build his team around the South Korean star.
While Harry Kane struggles and has no Premier League goal in this campaign, Son has remained impressive and seems to be the club’s danger man in this campaign.
Former Leeds United star, Whelan reckons Son is the driving force of the Tottenham team and he is as important as Kane to the club.
He claims Son brings out the best in his strike partner Kane and has shown in matches that he alone can make things happen for the club.
He praised Son for his ability to pick out a pass, link the play and provide attacking support for Kane.
Son is the player that brings out the best in Harry Kane and both of them are the “heartbeat” of the club, according to the pundit.
The attacker signed a new deal with the club earlier in the year and Whelan says it is because of how important he is to their team.
“Well there’s no doubt that he got his new contract because of his performances and his influence in the side,” he told Football Insider.
“He showed that again at the weekend, getting a fantastic assist.
“You can’t leave him off the teamsheet because he gives you so much energy, intelligence, and attacking presence.
“He is the driving force behind this Spurs side, even if Harry Kane gets the goals – he is the one who makes things happen.
“He’s got the quality to pick out a pass and link up with Kane. He’s the main man but Kane gets the plaudits because of his goals.
“They should build the team around him because he’s just as important as Kane.
“Son brings out the best in Kane, and those two players are the heartbeat of Tottenham.”
