Every journalist and pundit is providing their thoughts regarding the appointment of Antonio Conte to Tottenham Hotspur following the sacking of Nuno Espírito Santo.
During a segment on BT Sport former Tottenham striker Peter Crouch assessed what the north London-based club needs to compete in the UEFA Champions League and win trophies. Crouch stated that Spurs have to recruit to replace players that haven’t yet been replaced and stop bringing in subpar players if they hope to
“They didn’t, they didn’t strengthen, and they lost big players. When you look at the team, even the defenders, [Toby] Alderweireld. [Jan] Vertonghen, Danny Rose, they haven’t replaced them,” Crouch said.
“They’ve replaced them with substandard players, [it], has to be said, and I think recruitment’s going to be very important. They’ve started with a top, top manager, but I still think they need to recruit.”
Crouch mentions recruiting, which is Conte’s specialty. The Italian tactician brings a winning pedigree and exceeds the club to invest heavy sums of money in improving the squad.
At Inter Milan, Conte pushed for the Serie A side to spend a significant amount of money on players like Romelu Lukaku, Achraf Hakimi, Nicolò Barella, and Christian Eriksen, among other players leading to Inter Milan winning the Scudetto.
It will be interesting to see whether chairman Daniel Levy commits financially to overhaul the squad to how Conte sees fit as he hopes to end the trophy drought at Tottenham.
I cant believe he would have taken the job without cast iron guarantees and if they are broken he will make Nuno’s tenure appear long term
We MUST recruit. I hope Conte doesn’t get bamboozled by Levy waxing lyrical about the likes of Winks and Dele. Truth is we have very few top 4 players right now, lots of average junk instead. Levy adds to it every window, except the ones when he bought nothing which was even worse. Get hold of him and demand the funds before he does a runner in January.
