“They might not admit it publicly” Pundit reckons Conte has told Spurs who he wants

By Bruce Grove -

Danny Mills insists Antonio Conte must have already told Tottenham the player he wants in terms of transfer targets.

The Italian gaffer has just been hired as the Tottenham boss and he inherited a squad of quality but underperforming players.

He could choose to get the best out of the stars he has at his disposal, but question marks remain over their ability to win trophies and take the club to the next level.

The likes of Harry Kane and Son Heung-min remain two of the best players in England, but they haven’t been in fine form recently.

The two of them alone cannot help Spurs achieve their aims and that will see Conte bring in a few players of his own.

Former Man City defender, Mills is convinced that Conte must have spoken to the Lilywhites about who he would sign before he took the job.

“They must have had [transfer] chats, they must have had talks about what is next, what comes next,” Mills told Football Insider.

“No manager in his right mind would surely go into the job without talking about potential transfer targets and how much money is going to be available.

“I’d be very, very surprised if they hadn’t had those conversations.

“They might not admit it publicly, but I would be incredibly surprised if they hadn’t had those discussions.”

Spurs have splashed the cash in recent transfer windows and Conte may have been promised that strengthening the squad would be a continuous process before taking the Spurs’ job.

The Italian will use the next few months before the transfer window reopens to determine the players he needs to replace.

If Danny Mills says so, then it must be true.

I can’t believe Conte took the job, without discussing Kane with Levy.He would have told him I need to talk to him and find out if he is with me for this fight.

If he tells me he would rather leave,I want him sold in january no ifs or buts. That’s the only way he gets his warchest providing Levy hands it to Paratici.

Is it significent Kane said all the lads are looking forward to working with Conte, but didn’t actually mention himself?

How can a club in the upper echelon of world football for 7 years has one striker on their books, and no bonified creative mid in 4 years. We were always heading to this place. Now we have Conte and he should be able to play whatever system he wants, but should not be searching the barn for usable creative mid. Sm not a Levy out guy, but how could these manager accept that kind of silliness.

I think that if a manager is serious about Spurs, he will know everything there is to know about the players – especially who can be trusted and who can’t – just judging by how they played under Jose, Mason, and Nuno. Largely the same players have been here for years and I could count the ones who improved – or at least stagnated – on the fingers of one hand. Their trustworthiness is also largely in the public domain.

These are still some of the same people who stopped playing for Poch, Jose, and never really started playing for Nuno. The “Zagreb boys” are there. The sources complaining about training are there too.

There should really be no more arguing. Some guys just have to be replaced by trustworthy professionals. No more hoping that this time, they will suddenly become reliable and useful.

Keeping our fingers crossed for Dele, Dier, Winks, and others based on one performance is like a wife who goes back to her abusive husband again and again, thinking this time, he won’t put all of their savings into slot machines, get drunk, and slap her around, because he took her out for a nice dinner one evening. Let’s cut our losses and move on.

Dof should be looking at recruitment months before the transfer window and sounding out potential new player agents. Levy is the one who never normally seemed to do this and hence very rare to get a deal done early.
