‘they might let him go…’ – Journalist claims Spurs could now be ready to sell their first team star if they receive a ‘good bid’ – opinion

By Mehdi Gokal -

Tottenham Hotspur could be willing to sell Emerson Royal, according to The Sun’s Tom Barclay, despite the Brazilian starting both of the club’s first two Premier League games of the season.

Spurs strengthened their right-wing-back position this summer by signing Djed Spence from Middlesbrough.

Emerson has been linked with moves to Atletico Madrid, AS Roma, and Juventus in recent months. But despite the reports, Conte has given him the nod to start Spurs’ opening two Premier League games and has already got an assist to his name.

Tom Barclay still believes that the right wing-back is the one first-team player that could be sold if Spurs receive the right offer for him.

He told GIVEMESPORT:

You’d think if Tottenham get a good bid for Emerson Royal, they might let him go, but there’s no guarantee and for the rest of the team, no.

“They’re all trying to hang onto their first team spots, and I don’t think Spurs will be letting any of them go.”

Despite speculations about his future, Royal is letting his football do the talking. He was the third-best player on the pitch against Southampton, outperformed only by Dejan Kulusevski and Heung-Min Son.

The Brazilian may not be Conte’s long-term solution, but he’s had a strong start to the season given the circumstances. And I personally wouldn’t be surprised if Tottenham decides to keep the Brazilian this summer and reassess the situation in January.

These tackles were routine back in the day. It certainly wasn’t a dangerous tackle. Bentancur slid in from behind and not from the side which is when injuries can occur. It used to be that if you got the ball first a tackle like this was deemed to be fair. That ship sailed some time ago. Anything on the man is often now interpreted as a foul and a booking too.

As I was watching the game I anticipated a whistle and a free kick to Chelsea. It’s what you now expect to happen. This particular referee let a lot go. Derby games were often refereed like this to allow the game to flow and to avoid sending players off. We’re not used to these decisions any more; hence the hoohar.

A lot has been made about Bentancur’s tackle and the hair pull by Romero.

Cucurella left a bit on Romero earlier in the game which could also have been deemed a red card offence. Likewise; Kulusevski was clattered out on the touchline in the build up to the 2nd Chelsea goal.

Tuchel completely overlooked both of these decisions which went Chelsea’s way and benefited them. I now have no respect for this douche. He lost it and has been trying to justify his actions which were embarrassing tbh. His biggest mistake was being critical of the referee during his interview after the game.

Royal is a good defensive right back. He is limited going forward but not useless. I would persevere.

Romero is absolute quality. Spurs are lucky to have him.

Foyth was assured on the ball and it made sense that he would come good in a different league, bit like Lo Celso. Foyth always had a mistake him but he was young, it takes time to learn your trade. Sometimes players need time and fans need patience.

KWP was never good enough for us as he was lightweight. We should have kept him out on loan just so we could get more money for him, we let him go cheap. Levy has never understood when to buy/sell at the right price. KWP is better than what we have, but I still would want better because at the moment he isn’t a Ch Lg player.

Barcelona are looking at Foyth. He has a release clause of €35 million at Villareal. Chelsea were reportedly looking at KWP with Southampton reportedly valuing him at £35-40 million. Two of our former right backs. What japes!

He’s not my favourite player but we need an upgrade before we let him go, although Nottingham Forest seem to be signing 3 players a day and just telling the old guard to go for a walk! I don’t think there has been any speculation on signing a RB/WB so I am not holding up hope in the story.

Royal is in the Sissoko mould, athletic, but not very good when he has the ball at his feet, which for a footballer is an issue. I am always apprehensive when he has the ball, that cannot be a good thing, and when he completes a successful pass I am relieved.

I dont like to disagree with some views on Royal but I feel he is quite a strong player and very athletic (not one to be bullied) it is just his non defending that makes you question him.

Yeah fair tackle, I was also thinking maybe it was the view from the camera on our side that was different to the view for the people who were claiming it was a foul.its important to view the toe poke of the ball before before and not just the replay of the actual tackle only p

I have my doubts about Romero’s robustness in the Premiership, always have. Quality defender but lightweight…

Definitely media bias, we didn’t play well so the narrative is that we couldn’t do anything other than commit fouls. Rather than looking at each case on its own merit…

He was lucky to get away with it as you see them given but it could just be that VAR helped him there. No media outlet has slowed that down to a frame by frame analysis that they will be using at Stockley Park. The broadcasters want controversy, it’s called showbiz. We are talking microanalysis here, plus’s the influence this season of letting the game flow. In real time and the naked eye that’s looking like a foul, with microscopic analysis it probably wasn’t. It looked like the toe of his boot just touched the ball a split second before the player was taken down. No foul.

If the backlog of Conte not wanting to use those three involved is affecting our ability to do bring players in then it’s not his fault, just a legacy of the directionless Levy/Hitchen nonsense that had blighted the club for several years. For example, LoCelso was made permanent when Jose was manager, none of these decisions are anything to do with the coaches. However, Paratici is a useful middle man between Conte and Levy, without him smoothing things with Conte, Conte would probably have left in the summer. Paraciti is the diplomatic influence to keep Conte on board, however there’s only so much talking round that will offset any disenchantment felt by Conte. We need more quality in, or we’ll be looking for a new coach. Conte wants progress, not merely treading water around 4th-5th place.

Yeah, it is bizarre. It was a nothing challenge, one that could have gone either way.

Not only this, it was way before the goal. Chelsea had possession after this. Their player tried a Cruyff turn in his own area.

Kulusevski probably had more of a case for a foul in the build-up to James’ goal. There was James’ TWO drag backs on Son, only one of which got a yellow. Cucurella’s stamp on Romero’s knee.

Meh

Not sure why there is still discussion regarding Bentancur’s tackle – maybe its just the feed I get in Australia, but the tackle was good. I saw quite clearly, in a close up that he poked the ball before collecting the player – it was as clear as! Add to this the exceptionally well placed referee and his very clear and close view and this starts to become a “denier” type conversation.

I am not yet senile, not vision impaired and the replay I saw showed undeniably that Bentancur took the ball first in what was a very good tackle.

Emerson probably would be the first to sell out of the first 11….. But why would we want to sell a young player from our first 11? Conte won’t want this surely.
Ndombele, Lo Celso, Reggy, Winks are all surplus to requirements and need to be sold first.

First team star.., are you on magic mushrooms mate. The guy is hopeless and cannot cross a ball to save his life. Get rid and bundle Docherty and Sessegnon with him as a three for one offer and then cancel the loan back for Udogie

Can you not watch videos on your device? A few clowns mentioned, one was Levy, whom has made many clown decisions over the years. There’s a long list for him if you hadn’t noticed… Arteta (the Pep wannabe) is a clown.. Jonathan Veal is a clown the manner in which he reports and tweets.
The rest of your post, what are you even talking about? Your sentences don’t make any sense.
