Davinson Sanchez, Eric Dier, Japhet Tanganga, Joe Rodon and Cristian Romero are all defensive options for Nuno Espirito Santo at Tottenham.
However, the Lilywhites are still struggling at the back and have been linked with a move for Harry Souttar of Stoke City.
Football Insider reports that Nuno Santo loves the 23-year-old and could bring him to London in the January transfer window.
Former West Ham man, Frank McAvennie, agrees that Spurs need a defender and are right to target one in the next transfer window.
He told Football Insider: “I mean if they are going to strengthen any area, it needs to be the defence.
“The problem with these defenders, is strikers want to play against them.
“Any striker worth their salt can score goals against that defence. I said before their game against Newcastle.
“Callum Wilson will score goals against that defence even with limited chances.
“They have midfield players playing in there. They are going nowhere with that backline.
“I know it’s obvious but you need to sign quality defenders if you want to have a better defence.
“It makes sense they are looking at new defenders, they have to sign someone in January.”
The Boy Hotspur Says
Some of the current defenders at Spurs are above average and can do a better job than they are doing now.
It remains unclear if a different manager would bring out the best in them, but adding a player from the Championship to the squad doesn’t look like a smart idea.
Joe Rodon joined us from Swansea last season and he is still struggling to make a name for himself at the Tottenham Stadium.
Souttar might be doing exploits in the Championship, but the Premier League is a different ball game.
If we want an upgrade, we should target the likes of Milan Skriniar who has been on our wishlist for a long time.
What makes my fellow fans think that bringing players on January will be successful when the facts are telling different. here are some player acquisitions in last 10 year for Spurs: Steven Bergwijn, Gedson
Fernandes, Lucas Moura, Dele Alli, Zeki Fryers, Lewis Holtby, Iago Falque, Louis Saha, Ryan Nelson, Steven Pienaar how many of them were hit or miss you decide.
Frank is off the money on this one-agree with you GCTM (and others) priority lies elsewhere. Erikson replacement yet to be found and competition for HK even more important now than at any time over the past few years given his obvious lack of commitment and upcoming ankle injury? Prospects should not be considered. What do we want? We want “ready-mades” and when do we want them? A couple of windows ago but New Year will do.
Whoever it is needs to be first tram ready not a prospect.
If we can’t get a striker in January, I’d get Daniel Sturridge in.
Hes EPL proven and capable, would be Levy cheap, would be happy to play with or second fiddle to Kane.
A good option to have on the bench.
In fact, Spurs could get him now as he’s unemployed.
We’re not scoring enough goals or creating enough chances, the priority now MUST be attacking options. We have very few. We need to bring in a 2nd striker and a playmaker in January as a priority. The defence has been added to enough, also in Skipp and PEH we have 2 DM’s that can shield the defence well. If Levy does not address this urgent problem then he can forget about European money – that sort of language he understands.
Daichi Kamada.
He’s the one for me.
Anyway Frank…….whoever plays alongside Romero turns into Richard Gough so it is
THFC need.
Frank in case you cant read it is 9 goals in 9 PL games.
That Grealish bloke at Villa would do nicely. Pick him up for £25m
Frank (hic) pour yourself another one mate (hic).
Here’s a question; if money was no object, who would people on here buy as Spurs No.10 / creative midfielder?
Eriksen is reminisced about, and up to 2018, rightly so, but his last 12-18 months were on the wain in a Spurs shirt.
So who is the one Spurs should target to take on this role?
Re defence I’d like to see Spurs fry out a back 3 with Reggie and Royal attacking wingbacks.
Then you can choose who sits with Romero.
Skippy and PEH in front with PEH slightly further forward with Kane and Sonny up top leaving room for that one creative midfielder.
So who would that be?
A 5-2-1-1-1 formation with the front 3 given the flexibility to move around (obviously with PEH and the wing backs assisting up top.
Suggestions for that No.10?
“If they are going to strengthen in any area…” please please please let it be a first team ready creative central midfielder/number 10
