“Scandalous recruitment” “Rubbish” Spurs’ Argentinian Is Failing To Impress Some Fans [inc. video]

By The Boy -

Giovani Lo Celso managed to get a couple of shots away against Burnley at Turf Moor this week, but overall his performances for Spurs are struggling to meet with much approval.

Fans are always looking for players to commit to emotionally, and for one reason or another, Giovani looks to have just come up short in that department. One fan commented that he was sick of waiting for players such as the 25-year-old to show some responsibility.

So far this season, Lo Celso has only managed to make 5 Premier League appearances for us, and has yet to complete an entire 90 minutes.

The Argentine’s longest run out was 64 minutes against Chelsea. Above is his heat map for that game, and one could use that as a coaster to keep your beer cold.

Again, when are ENIC going to buy players that require less running in?

White noise mate. The team is a directionless mess and I don’t believe that Nuno (although I sympathise with him to an extent) is the man to turn it around.

There are no ‘pragmatic’ teams doing very well in this league or others. High pressing and forcing the opponent back is now unquestionably the way to be a successful team. Which is why the appointment of Nuno and Jose was the wrong way to go.

Of course, no manager will be helped by the lack of a cohesive and coherent football policy at the club, that’s a given. However, if we’re going to be messing about in mid table we may as well ‘build’ around an approach that is proven successful. Rather than this hotch-poch of half ar*ed ideas around being ‘pragmatic’.

If the reports are true that Paratici wanted Gatusso or Nuno over a more attack minded coach such as Fonseca, then he should be sent packing too. Not a clue about what the fans want to see and crucially, yet another Levy yes-man…

Ok, we’ve just lost 0-3 at home to a poor Utd team, we all know the reasons behind the decline on the pitch. What are we supposed to do, not acknowledge who’s to blame? 🤔

When was the last time he had a good 90 minutes? He simply doesnt have the energy to compete at this level… he & Doherty have been our worst signings over the last 5 years… our recruitment policy has been woeful but those two are the worst. People like Sessegnon should be made available on loan & Winks & Ali sold… maureen wanted to sell these two & Levy said no….

Who should I complain to? Do I need to put it on writing and can I appeal any decision I disagree with?

My situation is that I love Spurs more than I hate ENIC. I have always detested the methods ENIC have used throughout their tenure. In particular the effect their decisions have had on ticket pricing and availability, at different stages of their ownership. They have exploited supporter loyalty to an extreme that makes me sick.

I would love new owners. I would welcome it. But I think it is naive of any Spurs supporter to not understand that the ownership of THFC is never likely to be of the type that City, Newcastle and Chelsea have. I don’t believe that could happen for all sorts of reasons. The main one being that the current owners would probably not sell to such people.

What can we do about it? Tell me.

What do we do with Dele and Tangy? I think Nuno is doing what any pragmatist would do. Tangy is the best of a very unreliable, unfit, uninterested and, in the case of Winks, untalented group of ‘creative’ midfield players.

Skipp has walked into this team and nobody else is even close to displacing either Skipp or Hojbjerg. That tells you something. When Nuno picked Dele for the NLD, at the expense of Skipp, we got battered by a terrible team, for half an hour, until we were 3-0 down. Nuno has shown by his actions that he will not allow that to happen again.

So it appears that the plan with the current midfield players is to play Tangy with Skipp and Hojbjerg in the starting 11 and replace Tangy with Lo Celso if Tangy is tired, injured or not interested on the day. Moura is keeping Dele and Bergwijn out of the team. That’s how it looks to me and I think I agree with Nuno’s approach.

He probably has to sell to buy so I would say the job Nuno has is to get a tune out of these players or sell them and bring in others. Winks should be the first out the door. He has been stinking the place up forever. If we can get something for him and we can sell one of Dele or Lo Celso; we should be able to bring in a player who can put real pressure on Tangy for his place.

I’d prefer it to be Lo Celso that is sold. If we got lucky and signed someone as good as Bruno then Dele could be saved in my opinion. Without a top notch creative player Dele is stuffed in this current Spurs team. I reckon I might have given Dele a go as a centre forward in the Checkatrade 11 too for what it’s worth. The boy does know how to score a goal.

Do you suffer with indigestion Mr East?

My view is that if a club bring in an unproven player like Ndombele and pay him 200k per week; how do they expect a guy like Eriksen to feel, when he has been with the club for 6 seasons, been payed a relative pittance in comparison to Ndombele, (reportedly 60k per week), while helping the club to secure multiple Champions League qualifications.

What do we think Levy offered Eriksen to stay?

Then there is the case of Kyle Walker. Trippier was a decent replacement but we lost Danny Rose too once he found out what Walker was earning at City. Rose just didn’t get his transfer.

Kane, Son and Dele got better contracts but what about the rest of the team? I wonder how they really felt about some players getting disproportionately rewarded for the clubs Champions League qualification. Toby played up and Vertonghen’s ‘legs went’ aged 31.

It’s the wages. Levy trapped some players like Rose on modest, long deals and then rewarded others like Kane with significantly better wages to trap them on deals he thought would bring in huge transfer fees further down the road.

Paul Mitchell’s recruitment was the best Spurs have ever had. Poch gets the credit for the top four finishes but once Mitchell went the recruitment was awful and that is what has caught up with us. Mitchell was at Southampton before Spurs and RB Leipzig after Spurs. What was their recruitment like while he was at both of those clubs?

Levy put him on gardening leave and paid him to feck off.

Tangy has got a lot, the others don’t give you a glimmer they’ll come good like LeCelso has done on a few occasions. Le Celso probably got more credit than he earnt but us spurs fans give a lot more credit upfront.

Do you hate the club? No, I didn’t think so. Do you want ENIC out? Yes I thought so.

People saying we hate the club because we criticise the regime need to really consider what they’re saying. It makes no sense, so if it gets rebuffed can they really complain?

Tangy, Bergwjin, Doherty, Fernandez, Sessingnon have done no more than him to improve the team, so why he gets singled out makes no sense to me. There’s clearly a problem with the culture of the club since Pochettino got zero signings for over a year. Criminal neglect.

Hard to judge players coming into this dysfunctional mess Levy has overseen…

I was right about the lad at the start. Said he’ll never be good enough.. Then he started to give me hope with the odd good performances under Maureen. Then he tailed off again. Another non entity, rubbish scouting and wasted signing.. A Botch pick from PSG if I remember right.. Everyone should realise that Botchy getting sacked was the best thing that could have happened to him… He had 14months of full paid holiday from us, and then lands at one of the top clubs with Mbappe Neymar and his fellow countryman Lionel Messi at his disposal..

Ever considered that the “recruitment” of the players and the selection of playing staff maybe a majority of the issue with our players? We buy wingers and play them at full back, buy central midfielders and stick them on the wing. We dont buy back up strikers (and wonder why our only one is injury prone – yet plays all game every game). We dont buy players for an ethos at all. Poch wanted fit, high pressing players, he got Sissoko…. Jose wanted defensive power with a fast counter, and got players suited to the high press (Hojberg) and no CB’s, full backs or technical control players (causing Kane to drop deep meaning we also had no target player). Nuno….I am not sure, I think he is just happy to be here. I am sure he has an ethos, cant wait to find out what it is, but I would bet the scouting team dont know and dont care either.

He needs time to settle
He’s young
He’s only coming back from injury
He’s being played out of position
There’s a player in there somewhere
He will come good

All excuses from our fan base of players who are in their 3rd season with Spurs.

And what do you suggest we do with Dele and Tangy, surely you’re not suggesting that they show any tangible greater benefit to the team than him?

He should be given a chance in the team now, Tangy seems incapable of producing more than 45mins of decent football, Dele no longer fits into a system that uses two defensive midfielders.

Because of your beloved owners of our club, we have no other options in that role. So fairly rich of you to write him off within the context of the tripe you often come out with about others ‘hating’ the club. Think before you speak pal.

It cant always be the players. Most come with a top pedigree. Lo Celso was top rated midfielder in La Liga the year before he moved. He has rarely been played in his La Liga position of central midfield. Spurs coaching system seems to take away their will to be a pro footballer anymore.

Poch told everyone he was the coach so not sure we can say anyone was a target of the manager. Can say the same for Mane and we get Sh**soko, Maureen didn’t want Bergwyn and the list goes on. Levy out.

Yes just buying Fernandes alone would of contributed more than both of those. Just shows going out and getting that one quality player rather than Levy’s policy. As has been mentioned L’pool went about it in the right way. Was it Poch who wanted Lo Celso in..?

Can see United sniffing around PEH in the summer if Spurs don’t resolve the Ndombele / Lo Celso creativity situation. When you throw Sessegnon and Clark into the mix it could be argued that the 2019 summer transfer window has ben the real problem at Spurs. We were tucked up on four fronts for 150 million.

We will struggle to move on anyone in our midfield positions except PEH and Skipp, who we want to keep. The others wouldn’t get in a top half side and it could be argued any Prem side bar the bottom three.

Not sure there is a market for such highly-compensated turds. Dele, NBelly, Lo No-Show, Winks etc are on wages that will make them very tough to shift. More genius decision-making from our Danny Boy.

Another piece of deadwood that’s washed up on the shores of WHL. Had more than enough time to prove his worth. Shoulda been moved on in the summer.

I agree with most of this. The belief that either Ndombele or Lo Celso have what it takes to deliver on a regular basis has puzzled me for about a year.

Ndombele does occasionally score and create chances but his level of fitness after 60 minutes suggests he should never have been signed for this reason alone. The fella has no stamina whatsoever. His unorthodox playing style also attracts challenges that lead to niggling injuries.

Since Dembele, Eriksen and Wanyama left the club and before PEH turned up, Spurs went through a phase where we employed midfield players who can neither tackle, score or create goals. Some were players who are neither defensive midfield players or attacking midfield players. Winks cornered this particular market but Sissoko, Ndombellend and Lo chitshow have run him close.

What Spurs probably should have done was sold Lo Celso and Ndombele for whatever they could get in the summer and bought one quality player who could do what Eriksen used to do. I fear Bryan Gill is the latest Levy punt in a desperate, cut price, attempt to resolve the lack of creativity.

Spurs need a player for now in this role more than any other.

I think they are both pony and their performances show why we are the only idiots paying about 80m for those mugs. Bar Romero and PEH, I can’t name a decent signing in the last few years. I think levy is doing it so badly to justify another few windows of signing no-one!

I’m directly opposite to your view. N’Dombele increases the tempo and pace with his direct runs at defences, he also has end product with stats.
Lo NoShow waddles around like he’s got a wonky satnav installed and falls over a lot. He only shows up in conference league games.

He’s good occasionally (much like the rest of them I suppose) but at least when he plays there is a marked increase in the tempo, unlike Tanguy “take 5 touches and lose it” NDombele.

Haha. Agreed! LC has been another huge disappointment. We bought both him and N’Belly when we could and should have bought Fernandes. ENIC out.

Put in a great ball in for Kane to scuff wide. I’d be giving him a settled run in the side now and hope he stays fit for a while. For me, he’s a better option to stick with than Dele or Tangy.

Lo Celso is frustrating. Definitely has ability. Very tidy on the ball. Capable of picking out a key pass. Scores the odd goal. However; more often than not he gives up after the first heavy tackle he receives.

Is happy to coast through games, after a few challenges, until he is either hooked for hiding or ‘injured’ around the hour mark. Rarely stays on for 90 minutes and when he does his performances are patchy. Never plays well in back to back games.

I have reached the conclusion that the boy is a coward. Nuno is is last chance. If he can’t deliver what Spurs need, on a regular basis, Nuno should condemn him to the Checkatrade Thursday squad and make him train in his underpants with Winks and Dele if they ‘forget their PE kit’.
