Gary Lineker has suffered a backlash after appearing to mock Tottenham on Twitter.
The former England international turned pundit has one of the biggest presences on football Twitter.
He often tweets about happenings in the Premier League and the clubs in the competition.
His latest tweet mocked Tottenham’s recent trophy history, which is one of the most overused jokes on the internet.
Spurs haven’t won a major trophy since 2008 and the Lilywhites have had several near misses since then, including reaching the final of the Champions League in 2019 and the Carabao Cup last season.
Spurs remain one of the biggest clubs in England and they have arguably the best stadium in the Premier League.
Their new Tottenham Stadium was opened in 2019 and it has some of the most modern facilities in the world.
It recently won the RIBA architecture prize and the BBC posted it on their Twitter account.
Lineker responded to the tweet by commenting: “Spurs finally win a trophy” and several fans took to the comments to react to his tweet, here are some responses:
They gave you you're one and only major trophy in English football though 🙌🏻 pic.twitter.com/rOt1ld4rUo

How are you making this joke when you were a part of the FA Cup winning 1991 Spurs' squad??

How original. As an ex player you should be aware of the many trophies Spurs have won in their history and how more worthwhile they were compared to those currently bought by money by the likes of Chelsea and City.

We've won one more recently than you!

you seem to hate us that much, not sure why you ever signed

They’ll watch the repeats just like I did of shows like scooby doo, & batfink..😏
This lot were too young for Southpark etc. You’re about a decade too early mate…
Correct.
However, Gary has forgotten where he’s come from after over a decade of the BBC overpaying him. His heads has got too big, to match his lug holes!!
Agree. Nothing distinctive about the appearance, just a load of glass and aluminium cladding. Inside, the ‘gourmet’ burgers and ‘craft’ beer are strictly bog standard with nowhere to sit and eat, just standing on the usual cold concrete floor surrounded by breeze block walls. It does, though, have the necessary capacity and the South Stand is impressive, but it is far from the eighth wonder of the world that many in the media make it out to be.
Well said ..when I heard I said the same thing in my head..at lo ast we won something..uve got to laugh
No doubt the stadium fulfills its role, functionally, even if it falls short with regards to a pleasing appearance. Certainly, the exterior is lacking in any architectural distinction whatsoever and is something of an eyesore.
Well to be honest that is exactly what I thought when the announcement was made. We win a trophy for real estate development whilst the football business flounders in constant failure.
Ffs… cant joke about anything these days without offending someone… ironic for generations that were fed.. the simpsons, southpark & beavis & buthead…
