Tottenham manager Antonio Conte made an alarming revelation about his players prior to the clash against AC Milan.
The Londoners ended up losing the game against the Italian giants and Conte revealed prior to the match that his team is lacking stability this season.
Spurs made an impressive start to the new season but they have been quite mediocre in recent weeks and Conte believes that the players are finding it difficult to keep concentration and stay focused week in and week out.
He added that some of the players are struggling to perform under pressure. While some of them feel motivated to perform in adversity, others have collapsed.
Conte said (h/t Chronicle): “If you want to win or achieve some targets and have a good position in the Champions League or in England in the Premier League you have to be stable.
“And this stability is lacking this year. I always talk about it with my players. It is very difficult to keep concentration, it is very difficult to stay focused all of the time.
“It is not an easy task being so focused. We are working on that, playing under pressure all of the time is good for some players and bad for others. Sometimes players feel motivated, other times they feel so much under pressure that they can’t perform.
“Maybe for a period they have a good performance and then they collapse all of a sudden if they feel too much pressure. We are working on this, we want to make our players more resilient.”
The Italian is working to make his team more resilient in the coming weeks and it will be interesting to see if Tottenham can improve in the next few matches and finish the season strongly.
Spurs are currently fighting for a place in the top four and missing out on Champions League qualification could be a devastating blow for them. Not only will it affect them financially, but they would also struggle to attract top-quality players without Champions League football.
