“There could be another 18-month deal offered to him” Pundit reckons Spurs might give fringe player new deal

By Bruce Grove -

Paul Robinson has tipped Erik Lamela to earn a new Tottenham contract.

The 28-year-old has emerged as one of the trusted reserve players for Tottenham this season, and he has delivered some fine performances off the bench.

He is into the final six months of his current deal, according to Football Insider, but he has no plans to leave Spurs for another team.

He has just recovered from an injury that sidelined him for six weeks and would be looking to break back into the first team.

Spurs are rebuilding their team under Jose Mourinho as the Special One looks to win trophies for them.

He has his trusted players already and can afford to sell off the likes of Lamela.

However, Robinson thinks that the Argentinean is “massively underrated” and has something to offer to the current Tottenham side.

He then tipped him to earn a new Spurs deal, probably for the next 18 months.

Asked by Football Insider what he made of Lamela’s plans to stay at Tottenham, Robinson said: “I’m glad to hear that.

“He is a very good player and has been massively underrated during his time at the club. He has always performed well and contributed with goals and assists.

“He hasn’t got much time left on his contract but I would not be surprised if he did sign a new deal. He is only 28 so there is time left in him. There could be another 18-month deal offered to him.

“He is keeping Dele Alli and Harry Winks out of the team which says a lot. He is so versatile and very useful.”
