“’The suggestion means something that I hate” Mourinho refuses Rashford credit over penalty claims

By Bruce Grove -

Jose Mourinho has refused the credit after Marcus Rashford claimed that the Special One taught him how to win penalties.

Manchester United have been receiving criticism for the penalty decisions that have gone their way for quite a while now.

Some of those decisions have been ridiculous, and VAR has also struggled to catch them being handed soft penalties.

Rashford appears to suggest that they deliberately try to earn the spot-kicks when he claimed that Mourinho told him to be savvy if he wants to get any.

The striker told the Football Writers Association via Mail Online: “I remember when Jose was manager, there were five or six times I can remember where I should’ve had a penalty.

‘Jose ended up saying to me if you’re not savvy about the way you do it then you’re not going to get it.”

The Special One was asked in his pre-match press conference ahead of Tottenham’s game against Sheffield United what he thought about the striker’s comments.

But he refused to take credit for it and instead said he didn’t like the suggestion before insisting that good attackers just attack defenders and they make the penalties.

‘It’s not an attacking player that is savvy,’ said Mourinho via the Tottenham YouTube channel

‘The suggestion means something that I hate. The good attacking players attack defenders and the defenders make or don’t make penalties.

‘If you dive it’s a yellow card, or it should be a yellow card and should be criticised by the football world.’
