“…the Spurs scouting network is full of idiots” “…not a punt” This Fan’s Reaction To Today’s Biggest Story Is Uncompromising

By The Boy -
My sincere thanks to our very own CowSpurs for nailing
our current situation with Tanguy Ndombele.

Ndombele was not a punt signing, we paid top dollar for this player to perform from day one. Not to bed in, give a few games here and there and see how it goes, or wait for him to buy the right furniture for his pad.

He should have come in and shown all the other players how good he was, owned the training ground, and worked his socks off to show he meant business. Levy is a shrewd businessman, so everyone says! Well, he got pummelled by Aulas on this.

The same chairman who let Eriksen go for peanuts! Who buys a car without looking at the service history, buys a house at an auction without looking at the pack? It appears on this transfer that the Spurs scouting network is full of idiots, as though they looked at a show-reel or the Man City v Lyon game and put in a bid.

For the money invested, you’d think Spurs representatives would have spoken to Ndombele’s youth coaches right through to Lyon, and got a psychological and physiological profile together.

Any one of us can read up on this lad. It isn’t a secret what his history is, yet at the moment we have been left with a player who has talent, but we can’t get a tune out of him.

Why can’t Ndombele have the attitude to prove both Poch and Mourinho wrong instead of reportedly showing a distinct lack of effort?

HH says:

It’s embarrassing that ENIC buys so many players with such crazed backstories. When you shop at IKEA, there’s that sort of no-mans-land bit just before you get to the tills in most stores.

A lay-by of items that previous customers and the store itself have both abandoned. You might get a mirror with only 3 sides to its frame. A child’s bedroom dresser with a few handles missing.

Marked but serviceable was a phrase used in the British Army for these sorts of items. Not quite 100% but you might get a tune out of them in an emergency. A canteen of cutlery, but mysteriously, there’re no spoons.

Tanguy – where are your spoons?!

That’s the point about what was needed from 3-4 seasons back when there was the basis of a very good team. All that was needed was to add one quality player as we went along to improve the squad just like L’pool did.

Yes, unfortunately it will play into Levy’s hands on how he wants to buy players rather than what the manager wants. In the future when asked to sign another big money player it’ll be “did you see what happened last time I did that..?”
It’s taken a long time for Levy to get over the Bale money spending spree and make such a signing.

Tappa. I agree with you! I doubted that Harry would make it (turned to my mate when we played PAOK in the Ropey League and said so!). Also, give Clarke a chance…

Questions too need to be asked why we let Ferandes slip through the net. He has had an immediate impact at Utd and they are a different team with him in it. How is it that we never seem to scout a Mane, Mahrez or Kante? Where is our scouting dept when the likes of Leicester and Southampton are finding these hidden gems? Levy wont splash the cash on established big name signings and our scouting networks record of finding talent is abysmal. Perhaps our scouts have provided dossiers on all these players only to be ignored by Levy and what we have ended up with is rubbish like NJie and Nokludo. Any scout that would recommend those 2 deserves to be given their papers and sent on their way. Levy hires Paul Mitchell and then cant let let him get on with the job. He’s a control freak

Many thought Kane would never play for the first team.(I was one of them) OUR BOY Clark. Leave him alone. give the BOY a chance to find his way.

This was meant to be the big one. The one where we finally splashed the cash – and we did. For the fee and the wages we paid, we could have brought in any number of top players – Werner for example was less.

In many ways it was an un-levy like signing. Big fee, big wages, high profile player. Since when do we do that?!

I totally agree something was missed with the background checks – something which we did with players like Son and Bergwijn for example. I’m wondering whether Poch wanted him so badly that Levy pushed it through regardless.

The unfortunate thing for us is that this will harden Levy’s resolve to go back to doing things his way.

Good blog.

Poch spoke to people back in Argentina about Gio and Poch was
told that he was “a great boy”. Seems like nobody spoke to anyone about
Tanguy’s character, you see this signing is yet another Ligue 1 deal Levy
likes to do. French players outside of the French national team first 11 are
generally quite middle of the road these days. The 98 World Cup was a long time ago.

Someone please tell Levy…

It’s all a bit picknmix, great buys like Lo Celso, Sonny and hopefully Bergwign. Then N’jie, N’Koudou, just plain poor signings. Then the punts like Jack Clark, will he ever play for the first team and Gedson, a player who doesn’t seem to have been signed for any other reason than he was cheap and available. When you invest £60 million you better do your homework. My only suggestion is fewer players and higher quality.

We furloughed the scouting team or what’s left of it during Covid 19. What is the point of having a scouting team anyway or a DoF when your advice is constantly ignored? Levy calls all the shots when it comes to player recruitment, why does he not take the blame for getting it consistently wrong?

Serge had a bad rep and he’s behaved himself. Marcus has a “difficult rep and he’s behaving himself too. Just saying🌚 would be a shame if we can’t get him to settle and enjoy.
