Good morning, all, and welcome to another instalment in this series of daily shorts from The Boy Hotspur himself, sharing opinions on and insights from behind the scenes at Tottenham Hotspur Football Club.
I pull no punches regarding what happened at Sid James’ Park a few days ago. This was not a corner turned. This was a lucky break, and Thomas Frank will be relieved that, in the main, fans stopped whining about being criticised and that the players were able to take some comfort from the draw.
The truth of the matter is that this lot finished 17th last time out, and they simply must improve. Can they improve, without snarling at each other, is another question altogether.
Next up is Brentford at home, and suddenly this doesn’t look like the walk in the park one might have imagined at the beginning of the season.
Brentford are 13th in the 2025/26 Premier League table with 19 points from 14 matches (6 wins, 1 draw, 7 losses; goal difference +19).
Their recent form shows a mixed but improving trend, with two wins in their last two league games boosting confidence ahead of upcoming fixtures. The team has scored prolifically at times (25 goals in 14 matches) but has been leaky at the back.
Can Spurs, who had an isolated Muani up front, against the Toon, take advantage? It seems optimistic to think so. Brentford’s form indicates resilience, with wins against mid-table opposition helping to stabilise their position.
