I take a view that this isn’t the case. What data from this discipline does is give you a good indication of how offensive players are contributing, albeit a little more indirectly. If one has a player who does close to nothing but notch up one ‘shot assist’, one might be dealing with a loafer. Whereas in the case of someone like Giovani, he scores, and he is clearly trying to help others to do the same.
