“The club simply have to” – Journalist discusses whether Spurs will financially back Antonio Conte

By Eddie Razo -

This summer will be an important one for Tottenham Hotspur. It will allow manager Antonio Conte to begin molding the squad into his vision. However, the elephant in the room, which has many supporters worried, is whether the north London club will back their manager financially.

It’s no secret that Conte demands the clubs he works for to meet his demands on the financial side of football, and if they don’t, the Italian tactician isn’t afraid to walk away as he did last summer with Inter Milan.

During a Q&A, Football.London’s Alasdair Gold shared his thoughts on this when asked about this burning concern as the summer months near.

“I think the club simply have to. Conte has made it clear in press conferences that he will walk if any club’s ambition is not the same as his,” Gold said.

“If he were to leave, there would be so many fingers pointed at Daniel Levy and the club’s board that the atmosphere would become incredibly toxic, and any new manager, one likely to be a restart young progressive coach, is going be coming in at a huge disadvantage. It’s a real crossroads summer for Levy.”

This January transfer window, Tottenham did bring in two players that Conte deemed fit and needed for his squad in Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski, which aren’t crazy economic expenses.

Nonetheless, the Spurs boss will want a significant purchase or a significant amount invested in filling holes that he sees on the squad.

Dilettante is a very solid, accurate description of Gold.

Not a Journalist Eddie, not an official club spokesman, just a dilletante who’s opinion is manufactured, bought and paid for. See comment to other post!

Oh, I think he can foresee it. He’s just trying to find a way of minimizing the PR damage ahead of the inevitable. I can see Paratici either being jettisoned as well or making it look like it was down to him, to make it look like it was out of Levy’s hands…

“Simply has to”… well Levy should have done a lot of simple things over this last 23 years and has either failed or deliberately avoided. I think there will be an effort to pretend that he’s being backed for the media and fans but he won’t and he’ll walk with a non-disclosure agreement in place and take a bigger job elsewhere…

Depends on whether Levy has any more property deals upcoming. We all know football is at the bottom of Levy’s priorities and he doesn’t have the sense to foresee Conte waving goodbye and jumping off the HMS enic.

“Fingers pointed” that made me chuckle Ali.
I for one would be more than happy to flick “the English archer” at Levy.
