The 8 Takeaways You Need From Mourinho’s Europa League Presser

By The Boy -

⚫️ Toby Alderweireld won’t be out as quite as long as previously advertised. The Belgian might be out for anywhere between 2 and 4 weeks.

⚫️ As far as fans coming back, a muted response from the José, who referenced government tiers, and economically, it is a move that will barely touch operating costs.

⚫️ Davinson and Rodon will play tomorrow, as will Ben Davies. Matt Doherty is back in training but not guaranteed to start. Erik Lamela probably won’t be available for Chelsea.

⚫️ Chelsea is just another Premier League game – they are all important. Mourinho is determined to win tomorrow’s game.

⚫️ José see Japhet Tanganga is a full back; multifunctional defender.

⚫️ Klopp’s whining about the scheduling is futile. It’s always been like this since Mourinho arrived in England in 2004.

⚫️ Hamgate: “I just try to open our world to the world”.

⚫️ FIFA coach awards: “I don’t want to say it’s politics” – thanks José that answers that one!

Fabrizio Romano was the source of the story I read regarding Aurier leaving with offers from AC Milan & Bayer Leverkusen, but Levy refused to sell for less than his valuation. He said Spurs still consider him a good player and if they don’t get what they are demanding he will stay and fight for his place.Aurier got quite a few assists last season and a few goals but it’s his rash decision making when defending that’s cost him his position previously.I think Jose will be fair to Aurier & Doherty this season and whoever deserves the majority of the games will get the start. Most top sides who win titles you can name their starting eleven at their strongest.I think if playing Chelsea in the Carabeo cup was a bigger game than a PL game Jose would have started Kane & Son.Doherty hasn’t let Jose down and I think he would have been playing against City if he hadn’t caught Covid-19. Lloris,Reguilon,Dier,Alderweirld,Doherty,N’dombele,Hojbjerg,Sissoko, Kane,Son & Moura seems to be in the driving seat when all fit so far, with Bale,LoCelso and Aurier the closest to being starters. The best thing is competition for places and a new winning mentality this season along with taking all competitions seriously.Aurier may well have overtaken Doherty with his display against City only time will tell.Aurier’s contract only runs to 2022 so Jose might make his mind up this summer to sell him and he has suggested he see’s Tanganga more as a full back than CH long term.

You touched on the commentary. I had forgotten how good commentary used to be… These days we hear the unpassionate drones of the likes of Gary Neville and Lee Dixon cracking jokes and giving their opinion, rather than actually commentate… Commentary these days tends to be rubbish.

Also Aurier has played in all our matches against the bigger teams… It wasn’t just City he played. Against Chelsea in the cup. Also in the drubbing of United.. The 3 biggest clubs we faced so far Aurier started…. Doherty has played more games so far, but notice this was against lesser opposition in a supposed easy run of games.. Dohertys new and Maureens integrating him by playing him loads. It doesnt mean Aurier is untrusted and to be sold. Not at all. He wouldnt have played in the wins against city, united and chelsea if this was the case.

Davies and Sanchez both made shocking errors against this team.. I don’t really trust either.. Can’t reply on other thread but I’m pretty sure we were not going to sell Aurier to Milan. This was reported in the daily mirror! Nothing from the clubs or Aurier.. The only words that came from Maureens mouth (more than twice) about Aurier leaving is that he wants him to stay. He has said more than once he can make him a great player. He said he wants him to embrace his battle with Doherty. He has also reiterated that Aurier has never asked to leave.. Jose thinks different to me? I go by the horses mouth, rather than trust a paper. Especially the likes of the mirror…. Don’t sleep on Aurier mate, try comparing his 19/20 stats with Doherty. Its interesting because they both bring different attributes. Aurier beats him in alot of key areas.. Aurier dribbles better, passes better, more key passes, tackles more and recovers the ball more.. Doherty shoots more.. Good player is Doherty but so is Aurier. Theres not much between them, both bringing different skills to the table.

Totally agree Leslie.
This is a team at the bottom of our group, if that team can’t beat Luda we have problems.

I’d go for
Hart,Tanganga,Matt,Sanchez,Davies,Lo Celso,Winks,Lucas,Bale,Clarke,Vinícius in a 4-2-3-1

We need the weekend guys fresh for Chelsea.
On the whole we’ve played really well at home so I’m looking forward to Sunday & maybe a Man.U type away performance with a cleansheet win by the odd goal.
…..yep that’s wishful thinking even with out defence recently.

Be more than happy with a 1-2 win

He last played at CB against Antwerp and was responsible for the mistake that cost us the game.He would be okay on the left side of a back three.

I never liked it when Poch used to send out our second string in the cup competitions with players returning from injury, players who hadn’t much game time and the rest made up with the academy players and expect them to play as a TEAM ,they weakened the side beyond recognition, with no leaders.

Having slotted into that position before you could make Ben Davies centre back!

Presumably Jose can afford to relax a little with his team selection given that this eves opponents are seemingly inferior to Antwerp?

Jose made it clear after losing in the EL to Antwerp that in future picking a team would be easy. If he wants to keep his strongest eleven for Chelsea will we not have the majority of the side that let him down before starting together again on Thursday night? (Davies,Sanchez,Winks,LoCelso,Bale,Vinicius,Alli,Aurier ) Only Lloris,Reguilon and Aurier started against City. How weak a side can he afford to name without making the same mistake as Antwerp.

Cocaine fuelled him like steroids. Amazing as he was, he was also a cheat.

Dier has turned his fortunes around maybe Sanchez can too starting tomorrow night,Tanganga maybe if fit. It’s hard to predict Jose and his selections.

Cocaine is a performance enhancer. It’s cheating. This has tarnished his legacy in my eyes. Loads of athletes across most sports have been pulled for it.. It can give players an edge so many have used. Mentality is everything.. Maradona gave some amazing performances when he was clearly wired.. Like that semi final when he ‘scored’ two against us.. His second goal was one of the best I’ve ever seen. What a run. This is why coke has the nickname ‘CHARGE’…. It makes the heart beat fast though, puts pressure and stress on the heart. Its no suprise he’s died from a cardiac arrest at a relatively young age… He was easily the best in the world when I was a kid.

Easty even allowing for clan living / extension of his playing career not sure sublime Maradona could have been any better than he actually was!

He wasn’t signed in time to play in the Europa League group stages, probably Dier & Sanchez.Toby’s scan didn’t look as bad but was inconclusive and they hope that he won’t be out as long as originally thought, maybe 4 weeks missing some big games.

True but all flawed geniuses live life in their own bubble to the full which sadly like George Best, Alex Higgins et al ultimately ends in self destruction.

Without meaning to appear disrespectful to his legacy, we probably need to acknowledge that much of his career was partly fuelled by cocaine. How much better could he have even been if he’d been clean living?

Certainly at Napoli he was high as a kite half the time, on and off the pitch…

It says above that Rodon will play tomorrrow as a takeaway from the press conference – I thought he wasn’t in squad?

Exhibiting scintillating skills. Was he the greatest ever? when as said on a previous blog is like in all sports, football, cricket, snooker, motor sport is surely a matter of subjective assessment. Maradona is probably up there with the best along with the likes of Pele and one of my all time favourites George Best who like Maradona was a flawed genius!
