“Thats no paratici masterclass” These Spurs fans react as Paratici discusses transfer window

By Bruce Grove -

Some Tottenham fans have reacted after Fabio Paratici confirmed that his summer plan was to refresh the Spurs squad with young players who had huge potential.

The Lillywhites responded to finishing last season outside the top four by spending money on the likes of Cristian Romero, Emerson Royal and Bryan Gil.

These players might not make the club stronger immediately and will need time before they make any sort of impact.

However, they are clearly talented players who have turned heads with their performances.

Spurs have made a bright start to this campaign and currently sit at the top of the Premier League table after three consecutive wins from as many league games.

None of the above summer signings has become a regular starter yet, but it seems the club didn’t sign them because of the contributions they will make immediately.

The Tottenham media team sat down with their new director of football, Paratici, to discuss the summer transfer window and he confirmed that they “had an objective, a target: to renew the team. Young players, young talent with big potential.”

Here are some Twitter reactions from Tottenham fans to the interview:

Why have you got a problem with fans who don’t like the owners then?

If you haven’t then I’m not quite sure what point you’re trying to make, nobody’s dissing the club , just the people that run it and their policies and our lack of success over the 22 years.

What part of that don’t you understand?

Not ‘knocked’ anyone, just stated a fact.
The idea of THFC leaking fake news is NOT a fact, more a conspiracy theory & WITHOUT express knowledge or evidence of something, nobody can state it as being true, can they?

Firstly, nobody’s slagging the club off, they are quite clearly aiming it at the owners.

Secondly nobody’s doing it ‘for the sake of it either’.

There are many people who’ve had season tickets for 40-50 years who are doing this. So you, or anyone else do not have ownership of any copyright as to what defines a ‘diehard’ fan.

Excusing the policies of ENIC is not ever going to be the position of the majority of dedicated fans, so stop pretending otherwise perhaps?

I would appreciate some facts. Do you infer that Enic and Levy are a force for good for the club? It strikes me that Enic and Levy have little interest in success on the pitch for the club and their supporters. Can you really explain to me that after 22yrs of the Enic tenure under Levy’s mismanagement that we are are a successful football club. Levy’s mismanagement of the club is well documented. Apart from his appalling recruitment record of managers, coaching, scouting and DOFs over 22 years, and God only knows how much that has cost the club in redundancy payments, his record in the transfer market is appalling and also well documented. I have been a fan since 1962 which does not make my opinions any more relevant than anybody else’s but I do not believe that Enic and Levy give a t*ss about the club and it’s supporters. Enic are only interested about rinsing the fans with high ticket and merchandising prices. We had approximately £350 mill on our balance sheet before we stated building the new stadium which ended up being 100% over budget and one year late in delivery for which Levy was paid a £2 mill bonus. This nonsensical rote that we have avoided doing a Leeds is farcical. I doubt that any Spurs fan really expects that we would win the PL on regular basis but surely we can do better than being run by parasites who are only interested in fattening up the the club’s property portfolio so that they can sell it at a later date.

Yet it’s fact they are the least successful owners since WW2. It’s fact they failed to sign a player in two transfer windows, something unprecedented in Premiership history. It’s a fact we have won one League Cup in 22 years under Levy. It’s a fact we have consistently sold our top players to our rivals and failed to replace said quality players. I support the team and players like Skipp, Kane, Son and PEH give me reason to smile but ENIC are not my football club and have done nothing but chip away at our status as a major force in the game. None of the rumors can be confirmed as fact either way but don’t knock anyone for failing to warm to the parasitic investment vehicle posing as owners of a football operation.

Oh & truth is, some of those players you mention THFC were NEVER in for, the Britidh media have been known to make stuff up you know, rather than THFC ‘leaking’ falsehoods but yes, for the reason you state & far too many fall for it.
Think it was about 27 players I remember counting that THFC were ‘linked with’ this transfer window.

Personally, I don’t class a ‘fan’ as anyone who constantly slags off all & anything about the club for the sake of it. A bit of objectivity wouldn’t go amiss. (My opinion, matters not who agrees).
A supporter to me is someone who actually does exactly what it says on the tin.
I didn’t say I’m an ENIC supporter & haven’t made light of what I consider their wrongdoings but I see no benefit in incessantly getting my kecks all out of kilter, serves no purpose. (My opinion, matters not who agrees).
Of course THFC are a big club, think you’ve just gone all British media on me there but FACT, unfortunately THFC are not AS BIG AS the clubs I mention. (Exactly as I said above, not sure how it could be interpreted any different?). (My opinion, matters not who agrees).
Been a THFC SUPPORTER (& 20+ years season ticket) longer than maybe most who visit this site have been alive, 1st fave player & who I ran around the playground pretending to be was Jimmy Greaves. (So, long enough & still counting).

PSG job, precarious?
Adding Messi, Ramos, Donnarumma & Wijnaldum to that existing squad is any managers dream & IF he doesn’t win what should be a given, the (one team) Ligue 1, Coupe de France & Coupe de la Ligue this year, Mauricio Pochettino should be guillotined in public in the centre circle of Parc de Princes.
(& PSG have already lost the Trophée des Champions)

You and Twatta don’t define who is or isn’t a fan. The ENIC apologists are the reason Levy mugs the real fans off and if you don’t think we are a big club, you haven’t been supporting us for long.

The debt is due to the new stadium, the ‘football club’ are fully self sufficient otherwise & it has nothing to do with buying or selling players or the wage bill, etc & it’s NOT the ‘owners’ (assume you mean ENIC?) responsibility to fund the stadium. (The owners are actually THFC, but that’s by the by. Some may go on about the ‘sitting tenants’ thing but that was only a legal term in order to get the funding/loans, nothing more).
MY football club are doing ok, others can believe, say or think what they will of THEIR (version of the) club & the few years of drastically OVER-achieving were beyond f***ing excellent but THFC are unfortunately not as big a club as Manchester United or Liverpool & lately Chelsea, Manchester City & even Woolwich Wanderers so although I’d love to see them win the Premier League, I won’t be apoplectic, get all unnecessary or spitting venom at every opportunity because I don’t like some of the things Mr.Levy may or may not have done.
I SUPPORT the club, through thick & (mostly in recent years) thin; as Tappaspur said, “diehard” & “loyal” & I am, 100%, TTID.

Remember Leeds in early 90’s? There’s NO guarantee buying ‘experience’ or wilfully throwing money at a squad will bring any rewards & possibly like them, bankrupting the club & taking 16 years to get back to the top division.
Veron, Shevchenko, Torres (@Chelsea), Poborski, Brolin, even Rebrov (& countless others) were ALL great, quality, experienced players who totally bombed & subsequently weren’t worth their transfer fees nor wages.
The ‘potential’ of Manchester United’s class of 92 went on to be a decent side.

My theory that Poch has agreed to return in principle and with PSG being such a precarious job for any manager, it might not be that long.

Nuno has been brought in to run things for now, he only signed two season deal. That might be why the manager search became so farcical, because Levy didn’t really want anyone for the medium to long term. If Nuno does a respectable job for us it’s the biggest job he’s ever had and will enhance his rep, that’s why he took it…

Totally agree, we’d have won the title that season had we had a few quality experienced heads in the team. We lost the plot at Stamford Fridge and that’s because we lacked experience.

Same goes for the C.L final, in terms of quality…

Sure, for a few games but it’s marathon not a sprint. You need quality in depth to have a successful campaign.

This is where the spending levels, particularly on player wages comes into it. The better the quality and the experience with it dictates the salary players demand. The more of those you have within your squad the better campaign you have. Which is why we are nowhere near the ones that finished above us last season.

There no point in moaning about Winks and Davies because I suspect their wages fits within what Levy wants to pay squad players. These are the kinds of players that bulk out our squad because they don’t demand top wages. It’s as simple as that.

We don’t even have a backup for Kane or someone to fill the hole Tangy leaves when he chooses to f*ck everyone about, including his career.

We simply don’t have what we need to challenge over a season. Just watch and see…

They are good at enriching themselves by boosting their property portfolio. They have no real interest in the club apart from that and the football issues are merely a hindrance. Most CEOs would have been fired for going 100% over budget and one year late in delivery but Levy was paid a £2 mill bonus, you couldn’t make it up. If you do some research on Lewis by looking into his activities in Patagonia, there is a very informative article by Mint Press on him, you will understand the type of people who own and run THFC.

Thank you. As you say if the board had had listened to Poch and had decided to be “brave” by backing him in the transfer market, something he had expressed prior to the CL final, we could have really pushed on but Levy in his wisdom decided to do the opposite and not sign anybody for two windows. This was unforgiveable stupidity from the club and we have reaped this poor decision making ever since. All the top teams refresh their squads as they know you have constantly update and improve. When you do something as retrograde as this, it takes a long time to catch up which we have not done this window. For those fans who post on here and say that those people who are anti Levy and Enic and are not real fans are deluded.

Absolutely spot on Marbella, I’ve supported for over 50 years now and everyone on here knows the squad should have been updated before we moved to Wembley. If we did then we would have definitely won silverware and attracted anyone of the above you mentioned. Would have been a win win scenario and the owners would have earned a fortune. I just feel it’s a lost opportunity and now we are playing catch up.

I’m with you!
It will NEVER matter who THFC buy, or who is manager, etc as there will ALWAYS be those that actually like being negative, pessimistic, whingers, etc.
ALL true THFC fans, should be firmly behind the manager & squad & be supportive even when things might go slightly wrong in a match or at times. It’s a long season & if being miserable about everything in early September is the best it’s going to get for some, that’s a bit sad.
It’s clear to see the difference in the players approach, confidence, mentality, etc already this season, so maybe some fans should change theirs??

I have no problem with buying some young players for the future, It’s Levy’s MO but in order to compete with the top side and qualify for the CL, we needed more than this. Utd bought Ronaldo, Varane and Sancho. Chelsea bought Lukaku and Saul, City bought Grealish and Liverpool were quiet but bought Konate. The one thing all these signings have in common is that they are all very good and experienced players. We were linked with the following players as leaked to the MM to keep the supporters in their suspended state of Nirvana. In no particular order, Martinez, Vlahovic, Kounde, Aouar, Traore, Neves, Doku, Kessie, et al. If we had bought at least one of these it would have shown proper intent but I suspect that would only have happened if City had bought Kane for the sum of £150 mill which they were never going to pay. I thought that Guardiola summed up Levy quite well when he said “We tried to open the door to negotiate but the big master of negotiations Daniel Levy knows everything, we couldn’t do it”. Forget Paratici, it is and will always be Levy who makes the recruitment decisions which is where the never ending problem lies.

All that was missing was mention of a 5 year plan.
Can we go all season as “1-0 to the Tottenham” I doubt it.

Do you honestly believe we will be competing for premier league titles or champions league qualification with the squad which we have? why do you think Kane wanted out….he sees day in day out how piss poor our beloved club is run.

My point was that we need to invest heavily on experienced players to ever stand a chance of winning anything, Just like Utd, City, Liverpool and Chelsea have done over the last few years and all have won trophies in the last 5 seasons…..even Leicester have won stuff because their owners invested on the pitch.

I like Nuno nothing against him at all, hope he does well. He was last resort, Conte wouldn’t come because he wanted to buy experienced players to have success.

Until we have new owners we unfortunately will be a poison chalice.

The other day there was a report saying that our club was the tenth highest spenders on european transfer fees between 2011-2020 and surprise surprise Spurs were the only club on the list not to have won anything!!

Our recruitment policy is all wrong, just because Poch massively over achieved (his brief was to get into champions league when we moved into new stadium) our owners believe we are at the top table.

Hardened players tend to cost lots more in transfer fees & wages both of which Spurs dont do hence the strategy…. at least they now have one…not sure one existed last year or the year before as I suspect Levy thought the players at the club were good enough to win things or at least get CL football… Levy is now hoping Nuno is his new Pochatino…it will be interesting to know what is Nunos remit? If its top 4, he’ll likely be gone by end Feb

Potential never won anything and the players brought in might be worse than those we have removed. We need a few hardened players who know how to win things. Nothing says any of these players can perform at their best week in week out. They all look very, very Spursy. I’d hire some reliability, which means German or Scandinavian, who always seems to be at the heart of champion teams.
