Tanguy Ndombele talks losing ‘taste for football’ during time with Spurs

By Eddie Razo -

After being the most expensive signing in Tottenham Hotspur, Tanguy Ndombele departed the north London club after two and a half years. The 25-year-old returned to Olympique Lyonnais on a loan deal this past January transfer window.

In an interview with Téléfoot (via Spurs Web), Ndombele spoke about returning to Lyon and how his short stint with the Premier League side made him lose his taste for football, considering how the move has ended up developing.

“Coming to Lyon was a risk; I left through the front door here. If I mess it up, that’s what people will remember of me. But at this stage of my career, it’s the best choice for me,” Ndombele told the French media outlet.

“Now, my objective is to get a taste for football again. When you’re not playing a lot, when you don’t appreciate the style of play there is, you lose your taste for football.”

Ndombele went back on a loan deal with the option to make the deal permanent in the summer for a reported £54-million. Nonetheless, whether Lyon wants to keep the midfielder past these next few months doesn’t matter to Spurs.

For Tottenham, they’re hoping that Ndombele can get significant playing time and boost his stock for any other club to put that money this summer for a player with no future with the north London club.

Spurs share a huge part in this going wrong. Act like a professional football club from now on and really investigate new players.

Go through their whole background, personality and know what you are taking on.

The giveaway quote here is “…when you don’t appreciate the style of play there is, you lose your taste for football.”

He obviously only wants to play his way and isn’t prepared to adapt and get with the programme, so would rather sulk than knuckle down.

Not right in the head – never will be.
Our biggest waste of money ever.
Not only that but it means Levy can pitch up in front of camera and tell the fans “we have spent large sums on players in the past”.
I hope he never darkens our doors again and we accept a lower offer from OM (no way would they pay £54m)

I’m a multi millionaire who no longer needs to work ,I found the league a bit to tough so I left to the only club willing to take a punt.
Sold next season for 10 mil if he makes a certain number of appearances.

Sometimes I wish footballers would just not say anything at all…..or at least be humble, admit that things didn’t workout at a club. He’s happy to take £200K a week thou !!
