Terry Flewers has urged Brentford goalkeeper David Raya to stay away from a move to North London.
Tottenham are expected to sign a new goalkeeper this summer with Hugo Lloris linked with a summer exit.
The Spurs captain was one of the team’s liabilities this past season. He made several unforced errors leading directly to goals triggering harsh critic from fans and pundits alike.
Additionally, he also became much more prone to injuries with age catching up with him. He suffered two long-term injuries within a few months this year.
After an injury sustained against Manchester City in early February, he was sidelined until April. Unfortunately, Lloris picked up another injury during Spurs’ 6-1 defeat to Newcastle, which then ruled out for the remainder of the season.
The club are ready to let him go and the player himself has recently admitted his desire to a new challenge.
He has already received an offer from Saudi club Al-Hilal who offered to triple his current wages.
He is also being linked with a move to his hometown club, Nice, with the Frenchman refusing to rule out a move back to France.
As his replacement, Spurs have been linked with several goalkeepers with Brentford’s David Raya reportedly the frontrunner.
Daily Mail previously reported that the he will prefer a move to Spurs over Chelsea who are also said to be interested in him.
However, latest update from journalist Rudy Galetti states that Tottenham are the only club in talks with David Raya at the moment and have shown the most interest in him
If the various reports are to be believed, the Spanish goalkeeper could be the favourite to join Tottenham this summer.
But Terry Flewers has urged him not to join the North London club.
Speaking on The Football Terrace (via Football FanCast), he said:
“I think David Raya is stupid to join Tottenham. Yes, you might earn more money. Yes, there may be more media attention, but it’s going to amount to no trophies. I think this appointment of ‘Big Ange’ is going to be a disaster.”
Ange Postecoglou will hope to secure the signing of a goalkeeper as soon as possible with reports suggesting that this along with a new centre-back are on top of Spurs transfer priorities.
The summer is expected to be a busy one for Spurs with a number of players set to be sold and several new incomings expected.
