Struggling Spurs teenager urged to look for a loan move away

By Bruce Grove -

Danny Mills has urged Jack Clarke to seek a loan move away from Tottenham this summer before the domestic transfer window closes.

Clarke was one of the top young talents in the Championship when he played for Leeds United and Spurs signed him last summer.

He was sent back to Marcelo Bielsa’s side on loan for the rest of the season, but he struggled to play.

He returned in January and was sent back out on loan again, this time to QPR, but he still struggled for game time.

He is not in the first-team picture at Tottenham at the moment and he will need to look for a new team if he wants to play regular football and that is exactly what Mills has advised him to do.

The former Premier League star claims that some players leave the club that is developing them too soon and that may have been the case for Clarke, before urging him to look for a new team before this transfer window closes.

When asked by Football Insider if another loan move could be beneficial for the teenager, Mills said: “To go from first-team football to Under-23 football is not great.

“Sometimes players move too soon and they can be too quick to leave a club where they are progressing and developing at. They are too quick to pursue the ‘big move’ and it is not always the right step for them and I think that is the case with Jack Clarke.

“If I was him I would look for a loan move before the window shuts.”

Personally I would say – “you are under one of the best coaches in teh world, go ask him what he thinks would be best for you”. If young players simply asked, and took the advice, I bet a lot more would make it.

Let him get some Tottenham in him. I’d keep him here for a bit but Leyton could do with him right about now.
