Gazzaniga did a decent job, he doesn’t deserve to be the third choice | Opinion

By Bruce Grove -

The transfer window is closed now and Tottenham will most likely feel that they have had a fine window.

Jose Mourinho was backed heavily and he even brought in Joe Hart despite having Paolo Gazzaniga, who did a decent job when he covered for Hugo Lloris last season.

The Argentine is a very good back up goalkeeper and I am a little surprised that the club appears to have sacrificed him for Joe Hart who struggled to play at Burnley.

Even after accepting the decision to sign Hart, I expected the club to try to sell Gazzaniga or send him out on loan to where he will play more often.

But the deadline day has passed and he remains at the club.

Remaining at Spurs means that he will be the third choice and it might take an injury to the first and second choice keepers before he will play for the club again.

From playing 18 league games last season, he will likely never play for Spurs again and I think that is unfair on him.

I know that Jose Mourinho wants to win trophies for the club and I want that too, I hope that he will either hand Gazzaniga some more opportunities to play or allow him to leave in the January transfer window.

Given a choice, I would prefer that Gazzaniga was the backup keeper as opposed to Hart, seems that Mourinho and the club have a different view.

I think Jose is serious he doesn’t want any bumps in the road this season with the squad – three good keepers is probably something we can just about afford, no risks.

Saying that, he might go in January, we’ll see.

Bringing in Silva was shortsighted too,I couldn’t agree more on all your points.Their 25 man squad now cost £600m.

He should have got his agent to force a move.He has given us good service, but unfortunately it seems he will keep no game time under Mourinho.

You can’t help but wonder if things are going to spectacularly backfire with Lampard.
You can’t question his ability as a player, but I think the Chelsea job has come a bit too soon for him.
It was obvious where the deficiencies lie in that squad, but he went all out on MFs and attackers.
I think a number of his young players have ability, but they’re not at the level yet to play PL football.Too many of them flatter to deceive,Abrahams,Hudson-Odoi,RL-Care just not good enough.

Two other players Chelsea wanted out on loan have stayed Rudiger & Tomori. Tomori turned down a move to West Ham at the eleventh hour. I wonder how they feel knowing they weren’t part of Frank’s plans for this season ahead,he also wanted Alonso & Emerson sold. This surely won’t make for a happy camp at Stamford bridge. Four defenders who are under even more pressure having to stay and play for Frank, when they know they weren’t wanted. Add to that a £71m keeper sitting on the bench that knows the club have lost trust in him and would have sold him if anybody offered big money. Barkley will be a key player alongside Grealish at Villa and has done the right thing to enhance his England chances next summer. Now Abraham & Chillwell in the papers for the wrong reasons.😂

I trust Jose on this or any other personnel matters. He knows what he wants and will get it and will be ruthless when doing so. I’m ok with that as his record speaks for itself.

I think Mou is trying to thin out the Argentinian contingent at Spurs, we were collecting too many of them imo. Players should be assessed on ability not because they were the same nationality as the previous manager.
