“still to convince me” – Harry Redknapp names the Tottenham player who has not impressed him yet

By Mehdi Gokal -

Harry Redknapp, the former Tottenham manager, has expressed his reservations about the performance of Richarlison, despite the Brazilian forward being favored by Ange Postecoglou.

The new summer signing have made an instant impact at the club.

James Maddison is proving to be one of the if not the signing of the summer with his terrific form.

Guglielmo Vicario has become a solid and reliable presence between the sticks making some top class saves.

And Micky van de Ven along with Cristian Romero have formed a formidable partnership at the heart of the defense alongside Udogie who has been a revelation on the left side as well.

Almost every single player has been outstanding under the Australian but there have been a few exceptions.

Richarlison is one of them. The Brazilian signed for Spurs last summer in a big money move but struggled to settle scoring only one League goal all season.

While there has been a slight improvement in Richarlison’s recent performances, Harry Redknapp remains unconvinced by the Brazilian’s ability to consistently contribute to the team. Redknapp had similar reservations about Richarlison during his time at Everton.

Richarlison has shown flashes of improvement, having scored one goal and provided three assists in his last five games.

However, Redknapp believes that his performance has room for further improvement and is dependent on his confidence.

The former manager stressed the importance of a player’s self-assuredness in the game.

He told talkSPORT:

“I think he’s got a bit to do still to convince me.”

“To be honest I was like that with him at Everton. There was something about him that didn’t endear him to me that much. Listen, if they feel they need to bring someone in on that side and they’ll be looking then they’ll go out and do that.

“Hopefully, he’s turned the corner, he needs a goal or two doesn’t he really? His confidence is key, if you haven’t got the confidence it’s an impossible game.”
