Spurs will not give up on Rodgers and will try again if he doesn’t get Champions League football

By Bruce Grove -

Tottenham is refusing to give up on their bid to make Brendan Rodgers their next manager.

The Lilywhites have been without a permanent boss since they fired Jose Mourinho last month.

They have been on the lookout for a new one and Rodgers has been at the top of their list.

The Northern Irishman has been a target of Daniel Levy for a long time and he wanted to make him Spurs’ manager in 2012 before he moved to Liverpool.

He is now at Leicester City, who he just led to triumph in the FA Cup.

Rodgers looks settled in the Midlands, but Levy wants to poach him as he did with Mauricio Pochettino from Southampton.

Leicester is fighting for a place in the Premier League’s top four ahead of the last game of the season.

They have to beat Tottenham and hope that other results go their way before they can finish inside the top four.

However, Spurs need a win to get Europa League football and will not be doing them any favours.

If Leicester fails to make the top four, Sun Sports says Spurs will try to convince Rodgers to join them again.

The former Celtic boss would now have to decide which of the projects excites him the most between Spurs and Leicester.

No sympathy, just don’t think he would be saying no to more investment

Might be nothing, but interesting all the same…. In the last hour, Paddy Power have closed bets on Pochettino being the next manager.

Levy is fully invested, feel no sympathy. He’s a major shareholder too…

Yep.

Roberto Di Matteo won the Champions League with Chavski, it was the quality of the team, the manger in that case made zero difference in my opinion.

Imagine what Poch could have achieved if Levy had brought in fresh legs during that 18 month recruitment drought. With ageing players and injuries galore, the squad was pushed to the limit. I honestly believe some of them still haven’t recovered from that time.

There’s an Irish lad that represents Mourinho and a few Irish players, so it could be him. I believe he’s in the first episode of All Or Nothing when they’re sitting in the canteen signing the contract.

I for one appreciated him at the time .
I play football at a place with about 70 players and they all talked about how good Spurs were consistently, a unheard of thing in my time.
He had is faults and more to learn but some on here didn’t appreciate him ,maybe ask em in 20 years a ?

Nobody has any idea how any manager will do at any club until they do the job. Nobody thought Ramos would sink us double quick, or Redshnapps take us into the CL’s later rounds, or Maureen would see us dumped embarrassingly out of the Ropey by a small fry after dropping from top spot like lead brick. No matter what their CV says, it’s a roll of the dice every time. I’ve given up pretending that I have any idea who’ll be good or bad for us.

I can remember when Giles was mentioned to be our Manager, but we opted for Terry Neill. 🤔

We could get a Jurassic Park clone of Bill Nicholson and it still wouldn’t make the slightest difference. Pedigree or not, proper investment is needed in the team.

I am fed up with Levy now but he has always just been the buffer working on a budget, Joe Lewis could have fixed this mess years ago.

The refs at Old Trafford were an utter disgrace when Fergie was there. It’s all by design, some are supposed win, some are not.

Rogers is no better than Poc and doesn’t have the pedigree of Jose. So we are breaking our necks to get someone in who’s probably no better than who we’ve sacked?

Yeah, but remember Levy used to have an obsession with aping a “continental-style” structure around 15 years ago… is there a more continental sounding name than Nuno Espirito Santo?

Man United didn’t concede a penalty at Old Trafford for about fifteen years when Ferguson was there. Coincidence or just very disciplined defenders.

Midlands reporters saying he’s not going to Spurs.

If they want an attack minded coach he doesn’t fit the bill.

Is it? Or is it a case of the fact that they are better at generating opportunities to get more exposure to these decisions, something this current team doesn’t know a lot about. As Gary Player once said when someone commented on a shot that went into the hole from a distance, “the more I practice, the luckier I get”.

I really don’t subscribe to these conspiracy theories and “elite” nonsense. Refs decisions can impact on the outcome of a game, but through design? Nah!! Too many variables for the fix to be in.

There’d be no compensation fee for starters. That sort of thing makes Levy drool.

Joe Lewis should make Levy manager. Tell him if he knows so much about everything and sacked all the others, then he should do it himself. Would be hilarious. Can just seem him doing a Klinsmann down the touchline when we score and disappearing down the hole when somebody lifts the corner flag.

The whole world knows that now except Levy who is either in some form of denial and needs medical help, or is pure evil.

John Giles on this morning’s Off The Ball broadcast talking about a potential Rogers move said “Spurs are in a total mess. Even if Kane was there, and I was a manager, I wouldn’t go near Spurs. As long as Daniel Levy was there, I wouldn’t go near the place.”
He also lambasted Levy for not backing Poch and for blaming him for underperforming with a knackered team after an extended period of no investment.

Might be something to the Nuno rumours. There would have been contact on the Doherty transfer.

And didn’t I read that Nuno, Mourinho and Doherty all shared the same Portuguese agent. Then there were the Benfica deals for Vinicius and Gedson Fernandes.

Well my crystal ball tells me that next season Connor Coady will be Tottenham Hotspur Football Club Captain.

They want the big boys in Europe. That’s why Liverpool have remembered how to win games all of a sudden and VAR has helped em again.

He would be crazy Leicester seem to be a well run family club but the boy boys are looking to poach their best players maybe he feels this is as good as it gets, remember this family club sacked the tinker man after winning the premiership when they were struggling the season after

Genuine question: What do you mean by “have been chosen for that” when you describe Liverpool and Chelsea as elite?

Yes he would be mad to come but I can see Rodgers here as soon as next week. Leicester ain’t getting top 4. Liverpool and Chelsea are elite and have been chosen for that, hence the FA cup win. Rodgers will know Leicester probably won’t be as good next season with Europa fixtures and he can go out on a high. Just wish I could get a bloody price in a bookmakers ffs.

Would be crazy to join us and work under a chairman who will inevitably shaft him by not backing him, and will then make him the scapegoat via a sacking, Rodgers reputation will then be in tatters.
