Spurs set for a financial windfall from the sale of a former player

By Bruce Grove -

Tottenham is set to make around £5 million as Marcus Edwards closes in on a transfer to Sporting Lisbon.

Edwards came through the ranks at the north London club before leaving them for Portuguese outfit Vitoria in 2019.

He has impressed for the ambitious Portuguese side since he has been there and his fine showings has prompted other top clubs to become interested in signing him.

The attacker is now set to join Sporting Lisbon after they reached an agreement with Vitoria over his transfer.

Football Insider is reporting that Vitoria has accepted a £10.3 million bid from the Portuguese champions for his signature.

This would see Spurs receive a decent amount of money because they negotiated a 50% sell-on clause in the deal that took him to Portugal.

The report says Sporting has agreed on personal terms with the 22-year-old and from all indications, the transfer is just about done.

Spurs need all the money they can get to make their own signings this summer and that fee would give Paratici something to use in pursuit of top players.

Edwards made one appearance for Tottenham in the Carabao Cup and showed great promise at the club.

However, the path to first-team action was firmly blocked and he decided to leave and it seems to have paid off so far for the 22-year-old.
