They have signed a number of youngsters over the last few transfer windows, and they seem to be focused on investing in more.

As reported by TBR Football, Spurs sent scouts to observe the 17-year-old during Sunderland’s recent clash with Millwall.

Rigg’s remarkable performances in the Championship this season have caught the attention of several top-flight clubs, including Arsenal, Crystal Palace, West Ham, and Brentford.

His steady rise through Sunderland’s ranks showcases his extraordinary skill and maturity. At just 15 years old, he made his professional debut in an FA Cup tie in January 2023, becoming Sunderland’s second-youngest player in history.

Since then, the teenager has continued to shatter records, becoming the youngest-ever scorer for Sunderland in both league and EFL Cup competitions.

This season, Rigg has cemented his place in Sunderland’s first team, with three goals in 15 Championship appearances. His standout moments include a sensational back-heeled goal against Middlesbrough, which earned him the EFL Championship Goal of the Month award for September 2024.

Tottenham’s transfer strategy: Focus on long-term investment

Tottenham’s pursuit of Rigg aligns with their recent focus on signing promising young players, such as Archie Gray, Lucas Bergvall, and Wilson Odobert. Additionally, Spurs have secured South Korean winger Min-hyuk Yang, who is set to join the squad in January and  Luka Vuskovic, who has been impressing in the Belgian League.

Should Spurs successfully sign Rigg, they may opt to loan him back to Sunderland or another Championship side to ensure he continues to develop with regular first-team action.

This would allow the young midfielder to further develop his skills and return to North London as a more experienced and polished player, ready to contribute to Tottenham’s long-term success under Ange Postecoglou.
