Spurs Pursuit Of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg Takes A Blow As Rivals Prepare £35M Cash Offer

By The Boy -

Tottenham’s transfer activity always feels as if it’s on a knife-edge, but this summer is likely to be more fraught than ever.

Our interest in Southampton’s former captain appeared to have legs, based upon Kyle Walker-Peters continuing loan with the south coast club. Walker-Peters joined the Saints in January, but has made just 4 Premier League appearances; 2 starting line-ups and 2 spots on the bench, playing 207 minutes in total. The plan mooted in the press was for Spurs to set up a player plus cash type deal.

Now, Simon Jones for the Daily Mail is suggesting that Saints’ gaffer Carlo Ancelotti could be prepared to buy Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg outright, for £35million.

Whilst Hojbjerg may not be the Hollywood signing many fans might crave, he could be the missing piece of Jose Mourinho’s midfield puzzle, which is currently without a truly convincing defensive midfielder.

Tottenham’s options to raise transfer funds are limited, and sources close to the club suggest to The Boy Hotspur that Serge Aurier could be the first man out the door if a reasonable deal could be struck.

Everton are well financed and their owner spends, not always wisely but there will be no trying to beat the price down or adding players nobody wants or spreading the payments over six years like Sissoko. Everton sold Schneiderlin to Nice and Siggurdson isn’t a defensive or mobile midfielder so I always feared they would beat us to the punch. Maybe the disaster that’s unfolding with the team might force Levy’s hand and make him do something he never does, get involved in a bidding war. I’d love to know what our offer was, probably £10 million and Walker – Peters. In other words a joke offer. Elsewhere Chris Cowlin is reporting we offered Danny Rose and Juan Foyth for one of the most exciting wingers in the Premier League Allan St-Maximin of Newcastle. Why offer two top players they will probably do the deal for just Foyth.
What about this deal, Aurier and Davies for Virgil Van Dijk?
