According to Sky Sports, Tottenham have reached an agreement with Benfica for the loan signing of Brazilian attacker, Carlos Vinicius.
He is on the verge of joining the club and becoming the backup striker to Harry Kane that Jose Mourinho has wanted all summer.
The Lilywhites have been keen to land a new striker in this window so that Kane will not have to play every competitive game.
Portuguese publications, Record and A Bola via SportWitness claim that during negotiation, Spurs tried to use Juan Foyth as a sweetener in the deal.
The Argentine defender has fallen out of favour with Jose Mourinho and he looks set to leave Spurs before the transfer window closes.
Benfica needs a new centre-back having just sold Ruben Dias to Manchester City, but they rejected Spurs’ offer of Foyth on loan for the rest of the campaign.
The report adds that the Eagles are instead pursuing a deal for Olympiacos’ Ruben Semedo.
Foyth knows that he will hardly play if he remains at the Tottenham Stadium and he is the subject of interest from the Spanish side, Villarreal, Spurs will continue to negotiate with the Spaniards regarding a season-long loan.
The club’s fans are also waiting for them to officially announce the capture of Vinicius.

We’re always going to leak goals if Eric Dier stays in the back line. Couple that with Davinson who has no peripheral awareness or passing ability – his favourite distribution technique is to play back to goal – and here we are, unable to keep a clean sheet for love nor money. We need cover for Toby, and should be going all out for Skriniar.
It is strange watching a Mourinho side leaking goals but we do score a fair few.
He is a wily old fox I always remember him moaning about us “parking the bus” at the Blue Scum
and this week he was complaining that FC Cheeky Maccabi were “too attacking”.
Anyway looking forward to our new striker leading the line.
Three and four years ago we had statistically the best defence in the Premier League. We had crazy numbers in goal difference. In two seasons it’s gone to one of the worst.
Defence has turned into a shambles since Kyle Walker left and Danny Rose had a nervous breakdown.
I’ve been saying since then that apart from Toby, we need a completely new defense. Looks like José has put one together at last.
I think Maureen has told Levy pre-appointment where he needs signings as a pre-condition of him taking on the job.
I think Levy has kept his end of the bargain, but the level of the signings (bar Bale and Reguilon) has been somewhat underwhelming.
I still reckon José can build a winning side from this rabble, but this season is the building, gluing together season. We might get a trophy this year, maybe we won’t.
In terms of challenging for the league, that’s another year off at least. But I truly believe if we stick with Mourinho for a few years we can do the championship. I feel it in my bones. COYS
Yep Levy has wasted millions on his “punts” down the years. Much better if he’d bought half the numbers but quality instead. Is he finally learning from his mistakes or has Mou had to point them out to him?
If it does actually turn out that we knocked back a 25M offer from Leeds for Foyth so he could be used as an unwanted bargaining chip to get Vinicius, I will be in despair.
Players who you’ve spent on, and fall below third choice are a waste of wages, and if you can get anything for them….. Fs, Foyth, Carter-Vickers, (ok, no initial outlay) Sessegnon, Jack Clarke, all players who are never going to get into the first team in the foreseeable, all with second and third choice players above them, need to be sold to raise funds for people who are challenging for places. Foyth and Sessegnon are commanding interest from multiple corners, yet they’re still on our books.
We’re on our knees paying wages to first team players who never play, and crying poverty when it comes to bringing in quality.
It makes no sense.
