“People should have got over this by now” This fan slaps down new kit’s trash talk

By The Boy -

Each season fans go through the same routine when it comes to new kit designs. Several months of daft photoshopping being passed off as leaks, followed by the actual designs being genuinely leaked, which about 80% of the online supporters profess to loathe. Finally, games are shown on TV with about 80% of the fans …merrily sporting one.

A routine complaint is the sponsor’s red logo.

The only problem with the choice of colour, is the reality of how branding works, and in turn, how sponsorship works. This fan absolutely nails the situation.

With tens of millions at stake, the sponsor is perfectly entitled to dictate how they want their logo presented. Complaining about a red emblem of a South East Asian company has to be the dictionary definition of futility.

I look like a dart player in anything made of polyester, but the green away shirt does look good and I can see that doing some business at the cashless till points.

Red looked right on freddie ljungbergs head.. Let the chinese have yellow polka dots on their kits if they want.. But red with our white and navy blue. Who wears red with blue? … Van der Vaart has signed up for the pro darts league. He should be battling Barney soon.. Reminded me of Harry Kanes ambition to one day become a kicker in the nfl 🤣 That was so obviously spurs pr trying to get people interested in American football. Which was never going to take off.. Someone should have told Levy that people play rugby in this country. A retractable pitch into rugby rather than nfl would have sold out those stadium seats for England games in no time.. I can see them struggling to sell out for these odd nfl games.

There’s a fine line between tradition and commerce and I think it was crossed when the owners of Cardiff tried to change their primary shirt from blue to red.
When Jack Charlton died there were photos of him in his early days at Leeds and he wasn’t in an all white strip. Leeds colours were blue and gold and the change to the Real Madrid all white strip passed almost without complaint.
A different era obviously, but even in this day and age I don’t think any big club could easily get away with a major change like Leeds. Spurs in a red shirt anyone for fifty million a year from your kindly Insurance Company?

If I could ask Daniel levy one question it would be: what’s happening with the 100 ball cricket and will we have our own team? I wonder who the best cricketer in our squad is. I reckon japh. I bet he can swing a jumbo. Siiiiiiiiiix. Can’t find the ball🌚. The Hotspur hitters🌚

Agree, a spurs kit should not be dominated by huge, meaningless red letters. It was a low bar to clear.

The red on the kit has always been a complete aberration and obviously it began with Levy. Who, people should remember, first sanctioned it under a deal with Thomson, the now defunct British travel operator.

This was not a South East Asian corporation who felt the cultural significance of red in that part of the world being key to their marketing. Levy will turn red for anyone prepared to pay ten pence more than the next guy with the blue logo.

I agree it’s just the way it is now, but I would also argue that Levy’s constant chipping away at the club’s heritage and traditions has meant that the fans have become immune to it to an extent.

The red on the kit is the same as the first bulldozer that arrived at WHL a couple of years ago. It’s the dismantling of something unique and replacing it with something homogenous and bland.

When I see the Bill Nic quotes being flashed up on the billion pixel mega screens I just can’t help feeling a sense of emptiness about their relevance to what the club has become…

Yeah I like the green one. The red is a shame but you can’t do owt about it so don’t stress, it’s not the end of the world. What bothers me more is who is going to play when Kane is tired or injured.
