Spurs In The Running For Centre Back With Suggested £92M Release Clause

By Joe Fish -

Tottenham Hotspur are in the running to sign defender Dayot Upamecano from Champions League opponents Red Bull Leipzig, reports the Daily Star.

The 21-year-old is also understood to be on the radar of Manchester City and Arsenal after emerging as one of the Bundesliga’s top young talents.

The Daily Star understands that Spurs and Arsenal may be in for a bidding war around the £50m mark, which does seem a bit pointless when the same report outlines the £92m release clause in Upamecano’s Leipzig contract.

However, according to Le Parisian, via the Daily Star, Leipzig may be prepared to sell Upamecano at that price in the January window, if they can bring in Tanguy Kouassi from Paris Saint-Germain as a replacement.

Another defensive debacle at Norwich City yesterday showed the need for Jose Mourinho to recruit a new centre-back, made more urgent by the future of Jan Vertonghen who is out of contract at the end of the season.

Is Upamecano the answer? I haven’t seen enough of the lad to say. Our two games against Leipzig will give us a better idea for the summer, if he is not snapped up before then.

‘seemed to believe the allegation, all without any conclusive evidence, all without any corroboration,’

Tis the sign of the times. I believe the club will put out a statement in due course condemning these allegations however highlighting no conclusive evidence has been found to support the players claim.

Guilty until proved innocent is the new precedent of supposedly modern life.

Hi Eddie I think a lot of fans foresaw this outcome. In all honesty I believed Rudiger, now to be generous I think he might have misheard, no conclusive evidence has emerged. We had an absolute firestorm of vitriol aimed at Spurs and their fans. TV, radio the internet, most of the pundits seemed to believe the allegation, all without any conclusive evidence, all without any corroboration, not one other player on that field heard any racist abuse.. Spurs were tried and found guilty without any real evidence, every fan tarred with the same brush. As I predicted the same papers, TV and radio pundits are nowhere to be seen now. Any apologies will be a long time coming. Sadly Spurs and their fans reputation has been damaged, and many people will believe that the racist behaviour happened, which it did, but it was a Chelsea fan who was found guilty of racist abuse of Son.

I did post this earlier, but i am surprised at the lack of attention this subject has received.

Somewhat off piste,I notice that after a week now the damning
allegations of racism against our football club have become conspicuous
by their absence. As far as I am aware there has still been no evidence
put forward to substantiate the allegations. And the media have dropped
it like a hot potato.
Isn’t it about time Chelsea offered up an
apology, particularly when one of their fans is the only person charged
so far,and why hasn’t Levy asked for a statement from them.He would be
well aware that a naming rights agreement would be easier to get over
the line if these things weren’t hanging over the club.He could try
being realistic too.
