Recent reports indicate that Inter Milan is actively pursuing Guglielmo Vicario from Tottenham Hotspur as their top target to replace the departing Yann Sommer, whose contract isn’t being renewed beyond the end of the current season (likely summer 2026).

According to Yahoo, Inter have identified Vicario as their priority goalkeeper option, with contacts already made in recent months.

The Italian international (currently 29) has expressed a strong desire to return to Serie A/Italy, and he’s been spotted in Milan recently, adding fuel to the speculation.

Vicario, faced significant criticism after high-profile errors. Notably, in late November 2025, during a home defeat to Fulham, he made early mistakes that gifted the opponents a two-goal lead within six minutes, leading to him being booed by sections of the home crowd.

This incident drew strong reactions:

Manager Thomas Frank defended him publicly, slamming the boos as unacceptable and stating those fans “can’t be true Tottenham fans.”

Vicario himself acknowledged the fans’ right to express frustration, took full responsibility for the error, and emphasised it as “part of football.”

Journalist Matteo Moretto has reported that Inter are “working hard” on this, and the situation could become more concrete in the coming weeks. Vicario is seen as the GK they like the most.

Tottenham appear open to a discreet sale amid Vicario’s reported dip in form this season, though any move is more likely in the summer rather than January, given Spurs’ need for a reliable replacement.
Earlier reports (from late 2025) noted Inter’s long-standing appreciation for Vicario, they tried to sign him before but couldn’t, and they’re positioned to act if an opportunity arises.

This aligns with Inter planning for life after Sommer (now 37), and Vicario’s Italian roots plus his Premier League experience make him an appealing fit.

It’s still early days, and no deal is done, Tottenham would demand a significant fee (likely recouping or exceeding the ~£17-20m they paid Empoli in 2023).
