Because they employ a lot of people they think that means they can do what they want. Based on the excuse their staff need help but do naff all themselves to help and go to the government.
Basically it’s using the financial security of their workforce to leverage subsidies out of the taxpayer.
It wouldn’t be as bad if they at least tried to help themselves. They see it as ‘no income stream, no wages or jobs’ even for a short period during a global health epidemic.
The government should say that the owners have to help to a reasonable level before the state prop them up.
