Tottenham were reportedly not too far away from a big-name signing in the form of Pau Torres this summer.
However, the Spain international opted to stay at Villarreal instead, as he hopes to wait it out and see if a bigger offer comes along for him in the future, according to AS.
Spurs brought in Cristian Romero to strengthen at the back this summer, but Torres could have been another fine signing in that area of the pitch.
The 24-year-old might have been useful in yesterday’s disappointing 3-1 defeat away to Arsenal, with Nuno Espirito Santo’s back line not looking at all solid in recent matches as the goals have flooded in.
It’s clear, however, that Spurs need to be back in the Champions League again to attract the kind of players the club wants and needs, with Torres seemingly just not convinced that this was the place for him at the moment.
It’s disappointing from a Spurs point of view, as Torres has really shone in La Liga and the Europa League to show that he could have a great career ahead of him.
This story is weeks old.
Shame on you Pau not wanting to join “Banter FC”
