“Specialist is a bit of an exaggeration” These Tottenham fans disagree over Eriksen’s free-kick prowess

By Bruce Grove -

A number of Tottenham fans have disagreed with their club over claims that Christian Eriksen was a free-kick specialist.

The Dane was one of the club’s key players and was in charge of the set-pieces, both free kicks and corner kicks.

The midfielder played over 200 league games for Tottenham between 2013 and 2020 when he left them to join Inter Milan.

During his time at the club, he was the envy of their rivals as his midfield performances helped to keep Tottenham as a top-six club.

He was skilled at scoring free kicks, but he would go long periods of time without scoring, yet the club posted on their Twitter account he was a specialist.

They posted a video of him scoring a free-kick against Norwich City in the 2019/2020 season and captioned the post: “Set-piece specialist”

However, some fans disagreed with a few claiming he was bad at corners and others insisting he didn’t score a free-kick for long.

You have to look at the coaching and what they do in training, even under Poch.

When we got a corner, we might as well have handed the ball over to the opposition for a goal kick! I got heartily fed up with the Dane’s abysmal corner kicks.

I’m afraid I tend to agree with the tweet that says he took every corner for seven years and never got it past the first man once!
