Southgate backs Kane to achieve this one impressive milestone

By Bruce Grove -

Harry Kane has emerged as one of the world’s deadliest strikers as he continues to score for club and country.

He has suffered from injuries over the past few seasons, but it seems that he will outscore as many people as he can in this campaign again.

He has scored 150 Premier League goals already and he has 32 goals for the England national team.

Wayne Rooney scored the most goals for the Three Lions with 53 goals and Gareth Southgate thinks that Kane has enough time on his hands to equal or break that record.

Southgate has had the pleasure of working with the hardworking goalscoring centre forward, and he claims that Kane is doing well enough to be able to beat the record that Rooney set to beat Bobby Charlton.

‘I think the goalscoring record is a really interesting one. His strike rate for us is quite phenomenal,’ said the England manager via Mail Online.

‘He’s obviously got time on his side to crack on and chase Wayne’s record, which would be a remarkable feat in itself.

‘But I also know he’s all about the team winning now. He’s been to the World Cup and won the Golden Boot but in the end you want to win as a team and he’s totally focused on that.

‘Reaching this milestone is fantastic. I was in the Under-21s’ team hotel when we’d heard he scored his first senior goal — a brilliant moment. The equaliser against Scotland at Hampden also sticks in my mind. And of course his goals at the World Cup.’

If Kane can remain fit, there is no doubt that he will break Rooney’s record and Spurs will hope that he will also score the goals that will help them end their wait for another trophy.

During his seven-year spell at Spurs, Clemence helped the club retain the FA Cup in 1982 and clocked up 330 appearances. He was capped by England on 61 occasions.

I see Ray Clemence we signed from Liverpool in the 1980s has sadly passed away.
Sincere condolences to his family. Fortunate to be blessed with 2 excellent keepers RC rivaled Peter Shilton for the No 1 England keeper spot at that time. Unless I am mistaken RC graced WHL amongst the fanfare of oldies past at the final game at WHL.
