South Korean outlet shares what Son Heung-min did to complete military service time

By Eddie Razo -

Over the international break a couple of weeks ago, Tottenham Hotspur forward Son Heung-min has completed his South Korean military service duty. According to Naver, the 29-year-old completed his mandatory volunteer hours.

All non-disabled South Korean men must conclude 21 months of service in the military before they’re 28-years-old as an obstacle against North Korea. However, the country does provide an exemption to athletes who win gold at the Asian Games or a medal of any color at the Olympics.

Son ensured an exemption from full military service and his South Korean teammates when they defeated Japan, winning gold at the Asian Games football tournament in 2018.

Instead, the Tottenham forward had to meet a three-week basic military training and some community service responsibilities. The report from South Korea claims that Son had completed 544 hours of special military service volunteer work, which came to an end when he reported for international duty last month.

Some of Son’s voluntary work witnessed him visiting a Korean school in London and giving football lessons to the kids.
