South Korean Fans Ignore Social Distancing To Wave Sonny Off To The Marines

By Joe Fish -

Tottenham forward Son Heung-min reported for the start of his national service today at a Marine Corps base on the southern island of Jeju.

And, as we all know, where Sonny goes, his adoring fans follow.

According to the Korea Herald, 80 fans and 20 journalists ignored social distancing guidelines to wave the 27-year-old against his express wishes.

Son apparently made a social media plea for people to stay away from the camp in order to comply with the government’s guidelines on Covid-19.

The postponement of the football season caused by the pandemic has been seen by Son and Spurs as an opportune time for him to complete his three weeks of military duties, a significantly reduced period of service earned through his gold medal success with South Korea at the 2018 Asian Games.

Chemical and nuclear training drils and tear gas exposure…check out this article to learn what else Sonny faces at his three-week training camp.

Top bloke. His behaviour, ethics and commitment to his life and football put a lot of other players to shame.
