Another Tottenham Hotspur game, another VAR controversy.
This time the technology ruled against Spurs – twice – at Everton, when Son Heung-min should have been awarded a penalty for a foul by Yerry Mina.
The Everton defender lost his footing in the box and clumsily bundled into Son, clearly buckling him at the knee and bringing the forward to ground.
Referee Martin Atkinson could be forgiven for missing that on first glance, but the officials at Stockley Park had no excuse for missing it, especially as they asked the game to be paused a second time to look at a new angle.
The only thing I can think of that may have deterred them from overturning the decision was Son’s theatrical fall, as the South Korean does throw himself to ground some time after the contact by Mina is made.
Take a look at the video below and decide for yourself:
No penalty!

Son is mystified after going down under this tackle but the referee and VAR both are unimpressed.

It is a similar incident to Jamaal Lascelles on Harry Kane in the game against Newcastle, and unfortunately for Spurs it was the same result.

With both N London managers under pressure the Daily Mirror are reporting that Emery has been given one month to save his job and that 88% of an online poll wanting him gone after Arse were booed off the pitch following 1-1 draw against Wolves.
Max Allegri is linked to the Bayern job.
…by sending strikers sprawling to no avail!
*in the penalty area.
IMO Defenders are getting quite savvy when making clumsy challenges in the penalty as Sons disallowed penalty was similar to Lacelle’s challenge on Kane which also went unpunished.
Painful watching a team completely devoid of pace and creativity when IMO Poch keeps chopping and changing the team, lacking tactical nous has sadly simply lost the plot running out of ideas and excuses. After some good times lets accept the “project” is over and move on.
Given the league table does not lie lets be under no illusion that current form suggests we are gearing ourselves up for a relegation battle this season when riding high Sheff Utd are no mugs!
This the team that beat us 7-2 and are fourth in their league. Clearly their owners are more focused on football success and ours are more focused on the NFL. We are a shambolic disgrace. Pooch blames this situation on the CL Final defeat yet forgets to mention the appalling form since January and the decline over the past 2/3 seasons. He has to go in my opinion. He thought we played well today and was as he says “appy with his team” well I am afraid no one else is mate!
Well what a pile of unabated turge that was. We are playing the most putrid and lacklustre brand of football. Ali and Eriksen were appalling. Davies was hopeless. We have no real transition from defence to midfield. Ndombele showed flashes but he needs much better players around him.Pooch seems to have no idea how to play Moura. He needs passes through and behind the defence to latch onto not having to play with his back to the defence and balls into him are either non existant or poor in quality. Pooch appears unable to find a way to change things. His time is up and we need the impetus of a new manager and he has to be a winner not a prospect like “Howe”. The problem is Enic and Levy do not want a winner they want a yes man like Pooch who will toe the company line and deal with the lack of investment. In a way I hope we do sink into a relegation scrap as that is about the only thing that might get ENIC to put some money into the squad other than just selling in January and using that money to buy more “prospects” who cannot play for the standard 3 months after joining.
Agreed a yellow at worse but not a red card.
The Foxes Tielemans and Maddisson to name but 2!!
In light of Moura’s minimal contribution IMO Poch might as well have given a full debut to Troy Parrott,
Not sure about that. There is certainly a feeling of good will between Sanchez and Richarleson.
Now that Nico Kovac has been sacked will Poch take the Bayern job?
Actually I thought Everton were denied a legit penalty in the first half when Sanchez elbowed Gomes in the chest?
The list of successful players we have lost out on is embarrassing now. Thanks to our miserly chairman. No vision.
I’ve seen pens given for less, this whole VAR business is a complete joke.Clear and obvious error doesn’t even come into it.
Son’s red was a complete overreaction by Atkinson, following an innocuous challenge and was a regular yellow offence. At the time I thought it was Aurier and said to my wife he is such a liability.I stand by that.We should appeal the red in the strongest manner, regardless of the PL’s rather hasty and knee-jerk explanation.
After watching this dire fare enough is enough when expecting Spurs to lose to industrious get in your faces Sheff Utd next surely its time for a managerial change replacing Poch with Mourinhio?
Part from the goal, dele was anonymous. Time to get rid along with the other deadwood …..
Also, who would av thought it?? Kovacic being played alongside a holder in CM by Lampard is now begining to turn it on, exactly as i said he would if utilised in that way. He’s looking just the type of player that should have replaced Dembele, doing the things Mousa did for us, moving through midfield into attack. THATS why Levy should av gone out and got him like a few of us here said.
Fed up with being right and watching everyone else prosper.
VAR again….and again….and again. So City’s goal was ruled out in their match for handball but that wasn’t handball against Ali?? They changed the rule. It hits ya hand….it’s handball. That was an Everton Penalty and should av been Another ENIC fc loss. The Son thing was madness too, as was Watfords Pen yesterday.
It doesn’t work, football has too many ambiguous decisions in it, it’s just being used for match fixing now. Get rid. NOW!
Bullshit was it a straight red! It was a terrible accident. If Gomes does not break his ankle it is a yellow card all day. You can’t change the colour because of the outcome!
