Son Heung-Min stole the show but Brendan Rodgers hails Spurs teammate’s ‘great’ display

By Saikat -

Tottenham picked up a 6-2 win over Leicester City in the Premier League at the weekend.

Both teams played out an entertaining first half with the two sides level at the break. However, Spurs came out snarling in the second half and punished a lacklustre Leicester defence.

Goals from Rodrigo Bentancur and Son Heung-Min sealed a comprehensive win for the hosts. Son scored a second half hattrick after coming on as a substitute.

However, Brendan Rodgers was full of praise for the Spurs captain Hugo Lloris. The Frenchman produced an important display in between the sticks and kept his side in the game when Leicester had some big chances in the first half.

Despite that, Spurs went into the break 2-2 and they could have been trailing if not for Lloris’ heroics.

The experienced Spurs star made his experience and quality count and bailed out his defenders a few times.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Rodgers said: “It’s 3-2, then Lloris makes a great save for 3-3 each. And then we lose the ball, it becomes 4-2 and then it becomes open during the last 15 minutes. Then it’s just about managing the game and managing the scoreline.

“I really feel for the players because I didn’t think they deserved that. I thought they were brave in their pressing to stop them from playing.

“Then we played well ourselves. Created opportunities. Lloris made some great saves.”

Leicester have been abysmal at the back this season and it will be interesting to see if Rodgers can sort out his defensive frailties in the coming weeks.

The Leicester boss is under a lot of pressure after his side’s poor start to the season. Despite scoring twice against Spurs, they had to come away empty-handed.

The Foxes will have to tighten up at the back if they want to finish in the top half.

As for Spurs, Conte will be delighted with the improvement and the character displayed by his players in the second half. The Londoners will also be happy with Son’s return to form.
