Somewhere Out There Is A Picture Of Aubameyang With Lennon’s Tottenham Shirt

By Joe Fish -

Can somebody please find this picture. I would pay good money for it.

For years we have had to accept Arsenal fans, each one thinking they are more original than the last, on social media posting that image of a young Harry Kane at the Invincible title celebrations; head to toe in Gunners’ red.

Not that most of those simpletons have deserved a response, but we might finally have something to throw back at them based on Charlie Eccleshare’s column in The Athletic today.

In what is a deep, deep dive, into Tottenham’s transfer near misses of the past, Eccleshare relays the story of how Aubameyang, now Arsenal captain, as well as being their only good player, was once very close to joining Spurs while he was a 23-year-old at Saint-Etienne.

And that is when the picture was taken.

Spurs cult hero Ronny Rosenthal was trying to broker Aubameyang’s deal to White Hart Lane, but Andre Villas-Boas didn’t fancy a striker who would go on to score 202 goals in his next 310 club games.

This is the story recalled in The Athletic:

I would have loved to have Aubameyang at Spurs; and not just to hold over Arsenal fans. He is an outstanding player; too good for them.
