The Premier League have confirmed the return of six positive Coronavirus tests from their first phase of mass testing.
A total of 748 tests were carried out on players and staff. The six positive tests came back across three different clubs, according to The Guardian.
The identity of the clubs and individuals will remain private.
Clubs are free to start group training again from today, as long as they observe social distancing but anyone who tests positive or shows any Covid-19 symptoms must self-isolate for seven days.
“The Premier League can today confirm that on Sunday, May 17 and Monday, May 18, 748 players and club staff were tested for COVID-19,” a Premier League statement read on Tuesday.
“Of these, six have tested positive from three clubs. Players or club staff who have tested positive will now self-isolate for a period of seven days.
“The Premier League is providing this aggregated information for the purposes of competition integrity and transparency. No specific details as to clubs or individuals will be provided by the League and results will be made public in this way after each round of testing.”
Striker Harry Kane revealed in an interview with Good Morning Britain last week that all Tottenham players and coaching staff had tested negative. But, I think, that is separate to the round of testing conducted by the Premier League which Sky Sports says took place over the weekend.
So we aren’t in the clear just yet.
Another wave of testing is expected to take place this week as Premier League officials prepare for a possible return on June 12th or 19th.
